"Remember when"

Seems to be the most common phrase

To slip from my mouth.

I always seem to float with the wind

Instead of moving forward against it.

I look back even if it wrenches my heart

And wish that it could be yesterday.

And as saffron skies and buttercup lilies

Could be waiting for me somewhere in the future

I retreat to the thorns of the past

The only vision that kills me

And heals me at the same time.

Everybody's leaving

Because they're all moving on.

I watch them from my spot in the sallow grass

My legs, already fallen to the ground.

Nobody wants to listen to me

And stay in the dying nature of the world

For all that comes out my lips is

"Remember when".
