VDH

The Valenda Demon Hunters, the VDH. An organisation with roots stretching back to the early medieval times, and the dukedom of Valenda. This Dukedom was filled with people skilled in the arts of the demonic, and how to bind, banish and destroy them; the most skilled adepts of this strain of magic were hunters, almost mercenaries, hired to purge the threat of demons from towns, cities and sometimes-entire dukedoms. These warriors were protected by a simple ward of protection woven into their clothes, engraved upon their weapons and even sometimes tattooed directly into their flesh, the ward was an X with a vertical line through the point where the two spars of the X met. After every hunt, a piece of the demon was brought back to the alter of the ward and offered in thanks for the ward of protection thus letting the master ward learn it's enemies, and give it's hunters protection from them.

Over the years the Valenda Demon Hunters have survived. They were driven into a nomadic lifestyle when the servants and lords of those demons killed rose up and destroyed Valenda, casting the land away from the continent and crashing it into the frigid wastelands at the pole of the world. The hunters became gypsies, still performing their work with the Alter rescued from Valenda, the ward granting them gifts to help them survive their new lifestyle. These included speed, strength, extremely slow metabolisms and natural weapons in the form of talons and wrist spikes, elevating those chosen hunters to a form closer to the demons they hunted for one purpose, "know the enemy to kill the enemy." The Hunters developed ways of hiding when needed and used some of their powers as performers to earn money for the scant amount of food they needed and to seek demons among the mortals. One of the gifts given was to be able to see demons disguised and hidden among mortals, thus being able to hunt anew.

The Hunters spred across and out from the continent now known as Europe and found land in England that could be used, the alter was erected in an underground structure that was to become VDH HQ, but for now was just one of the first permanent Valenda Demon Hunter settlements. During the Tudor period in England no fewer than 26 hunters were burned on charges of witchcraft, the inquisitors of the witch hunters finding the ward upon their flesh, and mistaking the gifts as signs of demonic possession. In one famous case a witch hunter saw a talon-gifted hunter slay a humanoid demon, it was evening and the hunter obviously saw a role reversal, and witnessed the hunter remove the demon's head to place upon the altar. The witch hunter stepped in and attacked the demon hunter who, adhering to the code of never injuring a mortal, couldn't fight back, and therefore was captured. Reports retrieved on that case show that he was tortured and the ward tattooed on his back was discovered, believed to be a mark of the devil, and the demon hunter was burned.

The hunters were driven underground during the Victorian period in British history and became gifted with night-sight as most of the demon hunts were conducted at night, targets having been located during the day. The alter gifted the hunters with a new weapon, the binding mark, this mark, when placed on the door of a building, above and below the ward, would bind all demons within that building, and would hopefully drive all mortals away within the 24 hours before the marks detonated, destroying everything within the building, the demon essence would be caught by the ward and would be added to the master ward.

As the ages have rolled by the hunters have used all forms of weapons, now they have begun to customise more devastating weapons, the projectiles used by guns being particularly harmful to demon flesh. Now with the gift of flight, and the recruitment of the Vamperic, mortals cursed by vampyres, the numbers have swelled and the hunters have been enhanced by the technology at their fingertips, beacons, illegal satellite networks, the winged core, and the old Magiks backing them up make the hunters a formidable worldwide force against the innumerable forces of demons in the world, having spread across the globe the VDH is more an organisation that the cult it began as, run from subterranean HQ in England, protected by a phase rune that transports mortals from one side of the HQ area to the other, never betraying the HQ's position.

The best hunters in the organisation are a pair of beings of great power that he VDH has recruited; Zakkerous, or Zak as he is more commonly known, is a mage from the founding of the hunters and has enough control over time to allow him to have survived the centuries since the hunters were formed. He usually stays one heartbeat ahead in time during battle, to avoid being hit, and to see an opponent's movement before it makes the move, dropping to real-time to hit the enemy. The other hunter is Sara, a pure blooded Valendian, a very rare person, she was trained as a warrior and does not display many feminine traits, during battle or otherwise, except physical ones. She is a hunter totally devoted to the cause, but not totally inhuman, she has friends, albeit very few, and will spend time with them as a human being.

I am Aboli, named Christopher by my parents, I am the VDH's newest recruit, one of Sara's few friends, and, possibly, the VDH's greatest threat.
