He sat there. Staring at the fire. Listening to the rain pounding on the windows. It was 10:00. He kept thinking about her. She had beautiful brown silky hair and soft blue eyes. Thinking about how her smile lightens up her whole face. He had asked her to be with him. But she said no. She was already seeing someone. He had kept away from her for a month so his heart wouldn't be broken at the sight of her. She was always on his mind. He missed classes, stayed away from his friends and never thought of other girls. All because he was hurting so much. And it was only a week ago he saw her kissing her boyfriend. He got home that night and cried. It was probably stupid for a guy to cry but he did anyways. A tear ran down his cheek at the thought. He wiped it away and ignored the feeling bursting inside him. He hurt because of how she had rejected him. A song came on the C.D. player. He recognized the song easily. It was the one that was playing when he had asked her to dance at a nightclub.

"I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh

I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away

I keep your photograph; I know it serves me well

I wanna hold you high and steal your pain 'Cause I'm broken when I'm open

And I don't feel like I am strong enough

'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome

And I don't feel light when you're gone away"

He felt another tear roll down his cheek. His heart started to quiver. All he could think about was the way her hands had been held around his neck. The way she put her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. They way she moved to the music. That's when he let it all go. He cried.

When he couldn't cry anymore he just sat there. Staring at the fire. Listening to the pounding rain. He sat there for what seemed like eternity. When he heard a knock at the door.
