American citizens have an Amendment on their Constitution giving them
freedom of speech, religion, press, petition and assembly. This Amendment,
which happens to be the first gives every American the rights stated above.
Well, when I last checked, I, being an American also had those rights.
Considering the fact that I have freedom of religion, why, then, do I
get in trouble at school for writing, "Satan is our pal" on my hand? I'll
start right here by saying this- I have absolutely no intention of becoming
a Satanist. There was no real reason for me to write something like that,
but I have a kind of fascination with the devil.
Now, if I had wrote something such as "Jesus is beautiful" I wouldn't
have gotten in any sort of trouble. You may ask how I can be sure of
something like that. The school I attend is in the Bible belt. Children
come to school everyday wearing shirts that say things like "God rocks, and
I'm not afraid to shout it", and, "Jesus = Love". So, that's acceptable,
but drawing a pentagram (star in a circle) or writing "Satan is our pal"
isn't?
Please R&R. Also, if you can help in the fight for freedom of religion and speech in schools by writing letters to your school administrators and speaking at school board meetings.
