Distractions,
Pulling me away with every word spoken,
Every light flashed,
And every step across the floor.
Go back over,
My old thoughts,
Chocolate, a sonnet, the photo, broken clasp,
And branch out and search madly,
Still nothing.
Miserable tap on my arm,
Lost sentence floats through my head,
What did you say?
Repeated,
Again,
But that notice on the board,
Calls my eye,
And I stare into space.
Reread the paragraph,
A blank,
And again,
A void.
Scan it some more, dear,
You'll get it.
My eyes cross and the announcements pound in my ears,
Some pointless beeping
Is my mind's only hint of it.
