In a small club on the north side of town, many people were gathered around the multitude of small tables. Some were there for the booze while others were there for the entertainment. The club, known as "The Beat", offered some of the best stage acts in the entire province and the people who sat in the mixture of liquor and cigarette smoke expected nothing less. Only one thing would be different this night. Tonight, a brand new act would be premiere on the stage of "The Beat". From what the club's owner had seen during the audition, he was confident that this new act would be an instant hit.
And so, there she stood, the star of the new act. She was young and had a natural beauty to her. Her long raven hair contrasted with her silver sequin dress. Never the less, she still looked beautiful and was radiant with confidence. At twenty-six years of age, April Frost was finally about to realise her dream of becoming a star. She had dreamed of this moment ever since she was a little girl and had begun to create her act at sixteen when she dropped out of school. Sure her parents had told that she would be better off with an education, even if finishing school young was common in the 1960s. But then again, they weren't the perfect example so they didn't do much to stop April. For ten years, April worked hard on her act, getting a part-time job as a waitress so she could pay to attend all the newest nightclub acts to get ideas and see how things were really done. Of course, there was also the fact that she needed a put a roof over her head and that required money so she had no choice but to find and take her part-time job as a waitress. But she told herself that wouldn't matter once she became a famous star. Once she'd be known through the entire country, April told herself that she would be able to pay for two roofs over her head, maybe more.
Finally, April heard the announcer's voice echoing through the club announcing the start of the second act. April counted her blessings, and her sins that her moment had finally arrived. She had to count not only her blessings but as well as her sins since she had, on occasion, done certain things her mother would call "unholy" with no-name people to finally find some one with connections and had dazzled those who had a name in the bussiness with her real talent. But those memories were quickly pushed to the back of her mind as she heard the words she had dreamed about for so long.
"Ladies and gentlemen The Beat is proud to present a brand new, never before seen act! Hold on to your drinks because this will be a night that you'll never forget! Please welcome a pretty young lady who will steal your heart with not just her smile, but her amazing voice as well, April Frost!!!"
The crowd clapped and the spotlight shone on April making her sequin dress sparkle. April began to sway her hips and arms as she moved forward and started to sing. She could tell by the way the people were smiling and snapping their fingers along to her act that they liked it. April Frost had finally, and truly became, a starlit star.
The End
