Their Secret

By: lil_popcorngurl

Summary: Holly Matheson is known as the smart and likeable overachiever while Josh is the guy who hates her. Could one little secret destroy the façade that they both put up against the high school?

Chapter one: The shed

Holly Matheson walked down the hallways of Maplewood high smiling brightly. But of coarse the reason behind her happiness was because she had gotten the highest mark in her class on her English exam. She dazzled everyone with her smile as she walked down the hallways at school. Holly wasn't the most popular girl at Maplewood High, but she was the most well known and liked. She could fit into any group if she so chose. Holly was pretty enough to hang out with the popular preps, she was deep enough to hang out with the Goths, she was smart enough to hang out with the geeks, she was nice enough to hang out with the odd groups of people that didn't make sense yet, they were friends. Holly's only problem was that she didn't really have any friends. If she wanted to have friends she could have but she just didn't.

Although Holly was the friendly type, she felt she didn't have the time to make any friends. From what the people around her thought, every year she would take on a crony from the student council to be her assistant and do things for her. This year's model was Sydney Lamirand. Sydney was really nice and did everything that Holly had asked. Sydney decided to be Holly's friend even if Holly didn't want any.

As Holly walked down the Hallway to her locker she bumped into someone she least suspected. Holly didn't hate anyone. That was just her she couldn't hate anyone. If anything, He hated her. " If it isn't Holly Anna." Josh Pitre said. He called her Holly Anna because of her kindness. It was in a mocking sense because of the old movie staring Halley Mills called Polly Anna and how Polly Anna was the nicest girl in town.

Josh Pitre wasn't Holly's favourite person, for one thing he always tried to tease her, every chance her got. He would push her books out of her hands he would attempt to trip her. He did the works. His reasoning for hating Holly wasn't for sure but one thing was sure that he did hate her.

" Hey, Josh." Holly smiled cheerfully at him. " Are you going to the black and white ball?" Holly asked. " It's going to be a blast, I did everything myself." Holly hated these little "meetings" she had with Josh. It made no sense to her why he had to be so cruel to anyone just to further his enjoyment.

" Why are you so cheerful this time?" he asked grumpily eyeing her cheerful features.

" Why I got a hundred percent in my test today." She beamed. Holly wasn't like most girls if you haven't already guessed. She was a junior at Maplewood High and she had already finished all her math and science classes in grade ten. She even finished the AP classes and calculus. I bet your wondering how. Well she dropped all her fun classes for her core classes in her early grades. As a matter of fact, her classes were Science 8, science 9, English 8, English 9 for the first semester then for the second semester it was, math 8, math 9, socials 8, socials 9. In her first year at Maplewood High she completed two years of work. But it didn't end there. In her sophomore year she took Science 10, science 11, math 10, math 11 for the first semester and then English 10, English 11, socials 10 and socials 11 for the second semester. Holly was only in grade 9 and she was completing work two years ahead of everybody else. By the time she was in grade ten she took AP classes for everything. The only reason she was still taking English was because at Maplewood high they offered a play writing class.

" Big surprise." Josh said nonchalantly. " You are so strange." He told Holly.

" Thank you for the uh, compliment." Holly said turning on her heels towards another direction.

This left Josh beaming, he loved to make Holly so angry even if she did just turn away in frustration. He could see her auburn hair swish to the sides as she stormed off.

" Josh man, why do you always do that to her?" Josh's best friend Mark asked. Josh unlike Holly had lots of friends. He was the guy that everyone wanted to be. Feared by most and loved by most. He was the captain of all the athletic teams except wrestling.

" I don't know, I guess it's fun to see her so . . . angry." Josh admitted.

" Dude, you like her and you can't deny it." Mark went on.

" So what if I do? What are you going to do about it?" Josh asked cunningly. After Mark didn't say anything Josh went on " Exactly."

It was sad to say that Josh had a crush on his next door neighbour Holly Matheson ever since fifth grade. Even back then she was exactly the same, only back then He was her friend. It had been after Josh had realized he liked his best friend. He wanted her to know how he felt so he went to the place where the prettiest flowers grew. He picked one and went to Holly's house. He knocked on the door to find Holly in tears. Josh didn't understand it exactly but when she saw the flower she was so angry. She slapped him across the face and yelled. " Josh I never want to be your friend ever again!" but of course what josh never realized was the reason behind her anger. That garden with all the pretty flowers that he got the flower from was her mothers prized garden. When her mother had found that it had been dug up, Holly's mother assumed Holly had done it when really Josh did. When Josh showed Holly the flower she learned that the reason she had gotten in trouble wasn't because of some racoons but because of Josh.

Anyways Josh kept admiring Holly from afar and ridiculing her when they were close. He liked that relationship between the two of them yet, he some how wanted more.

Later that day about after dinnertime, Josh went and hid in the shed in the backyard to think about stuff. His shed was shared with Holly's Shed because the parents thought it'd be so fine. While Josh was trying to sort out his feelings about stuff Holly walked in. She was startled when she saw him. "It's okay, Matheson. I was just about to leave." Josh lied getting up from his spot to leave.

" It's okay." Holly said sheepishly. " You can stay, this is my thinking spot."

" Mine too." Josh admitted. " It's the only place that is warm enough to live in yet quiet enough to be alone in."

" Yeah." Holly said sitting down in a lawn chair. She was clearly deep in thought about something yet sad at the same time. Josh had never seen this side of her before. Holly wasn't happy. This came as a rush of blood to Josh's head.

" Is it rude to ask what's going on?" Josh asked.

" Very, but I'll tell you anyways." She gave a weak smile. " My parents are fighting again. I thought that me being the best I can be would be enough. I thought taking grade twelve AP classes in grade ten was good enough. But it's not." She sighed and looked disheartened.

" Are they going to separate?" he asked concerned. Josh had never known the Matheson's as the fighting kind of family so this shocked him.

" No, no they're not. They were fighting about me." Holly wiped her tears off her face. " So why are you here?" she asked.

" Well, guy stuff mostly. Things you wouldn't understand." He admitted blushing. There was no way that Holly would ever know about his little infatuation with her.

" Well try me." She said with her smile brightening up.

" Well . . . how about this. Since I know a little bit about you and you know a little bit about me why don't we discuss it every Tuesday night?" Josh asked. " I promise I won't be a jerk to you, but I promise to be honest." Josh said holding his hand up to his chest.

" Only if you tell me what's on your mind." Holly reasoned.

" Okay fine. Well everyone is depending on me to win at the championships. I don't know if I can stand the pressure." He said a little flustered that he was telling his crush about his anxiety.

" Don't worry your little pretty head about it." Holly smiled. " If you lose it'll be the teams fault, not yours."

I looked at her. " This is nice." He said, " My little secret spot and its secrets are being shared with someone."

" Just remember whatever enters the Shed stays in the shed." Holly said waving her index finger around.

" So then I go back to hating you at school tomorrow." Josh sighed.

" And I go back to being little miss perfect."

And that's how their 'special' relation ship started.
