Mulch, Misgivings of

Decaying leaf

Shaken free in the first gust of fall wind.

Violated by a dozen feet

Like quicksand struggling through an hourglass

Cascading over cobblestone roads

I find you.

Pot-valiant after a pint or two,

A swagger which puts Jack Sparrow to shame

Flamboyant in attitude, elegant in style

Spotlight back to you.

Defeated, deciduous babe

Hopeful as a French army -

Alas, sharing equivalent chances at success.

You are a failure.

Sodomized by creatures of the Underground

Day in, day out.

Your stem bashed and battered

One solitary chlorophyll graced tip.

I suck your strength -

A fresh glean in my eyes.

Waxy decadence comes quickly

As we fight off an instilling sense of urgency.

I feed off your musty soul

Devour the acrid juices you slowly spill

Seeping inside me.

Making remarkable progress through nonexistent organs.

I envelop you in grace.

Once colorful, tumultuous autumn leaf...

You fade with each season,

Forgotten by the masses -

Forced to your knees

Servicing haughty virgin sprouts.
