Reflecting On The Past

The last words I said to you were, “I’ll miss you”,

And you know what?  They turned out to be, so true,

When you left this world, your soul running away,

My life changed, and became ever so grey.

The brightness that had always been part of my life,

Was wiped away by the pain, the trouble, the strife,

And my happiness evaporated, my smile no more,

I can’t help but cry, for I’m hurting so.

I feel as though my heart has been ripped in two,

By all this pain, I do nothing but grieve for you,

I know you’re gone, and that you’re happy there,

But I can’t help picturing your face so fair.

You’re hair so dark, you’re eyes so bright,

My heart doing summersaults at your sight,

Your touch so gentle, your love so true,

There was never anything like, me and you.

I stand here now, looking at this grey stone,

And wondering why God thought I was better alone,

I place a rose at your feet, as a tear falls down my face,

And hits the ground at such a searing pace.

I turn my back on you now, trying to escape the pain,

Wondering whether I can ever fall for someone again,

I say “goodnight” and wish you well,

Though in my head I’m starting to yell.

I leave the graveyard now; I close the gate behind me,

Now I need to learn how to be free,

I won’t look back, for the future’s ahead,

So now you’ll have to live in my memories instead.
