A Different Kind of Love Letter
By: Amorina Leigh Carlton
You are the mother of the one that I love.
First of all, though it is painful, I thank you
For choosing to bring him into the world.
You could have chosen to kill him before his birth.
He is young enough that you were given that choice.
I thank you for not choosing that path.
I realize it must have been a hard choice to make.
I believe that you felt pain and anger and shame.
But I love you.
Though I may never meet you, though I may never talk to you,
Though this letter may never reach you, I love you!
You not only chose to allow him life but you decided
To give him a better life than you could offer him.
You were so young and not ready in any way to be a mother.
You gave him a life that is wonderful.
Certainly his life has not been perfect.
Certainly it could have been better in hundreds of little ways.
But you knew that you could not offer him a stable home
Nor could you be the mother that he needed.
Thank you for that.
If you had not chosen to do that he probably
Would not have been the wonderful person that he is now.
Though that is not your fault, for you were so young.
I would probably have never met him.
Though that be somewhat selfish,
I thank you most of all for allowing him
To have the life that God made for him.
God prepared his life perfectly, it is truly God's will
Because he laid the road clearly.
Thank you for listening to Him.
Thank you for loving your son enough
To let him live and let him have a better life.
Thank you for all the wonderful things.
Thank you.
He is amazing and I know that you
Must be one of the most amazing people I could ever meet.

I do not know if he and I will stay together forever,
But I hope we will.
If we do not, I will not be any less thankful,
Because he was a big part of my life for so long.
He makes me happy and he loves me,
More than anyone on this earth ever has.
An ability he obviously inherited from you,
For you loved him so dearly.
For some reason I have stolen his heart,
I promise to take care of it.
And I hope to offer him a wonderful life.
But I just wanted you to know how thankful I am
To you, the mother that brought him into this world.
You, the mother who made all the right choices
That make up for the few wrong ones.
Though they were not wonderful,
They brought blessings upon others.
Thank you, From the one who loves
Your Son.
