A boy not much younger then 5 or so
Stood at the end of his street with a catch
For a nickel he'd give you some lemonade to drink
Mixed with sugar, water, ice, and quality
A nickel for such a thing a young kid would be grateful
They came with a rush with nickel in hand
They smiled and laughed at the taste and the pleasure
The boy took the money with a grin on his face
He spent it all away without any disgrace
Friendship meant nothing without a price
The green dollar made him chuckle inside and bring warmness to his heart
The dollar, the bucks, the dinero, whatever you could call it
Was his
He spent his life at 8 or 7 doing chores for his parents like cleaning the
floor
At 10 and 11 he did jobs for people in his town like going down to the
store
As a teen he worked at the burger place flipping burgers for kids, more
then before
He went to college and became a great business man
All his dreams had come true
One day at work, and employee, someone below him, asked him to dinner
Never to give up the chance on a free meal he accepted gleefully
This man had gone to school with him as a child and he had always thought
him as a fool
He spent his childhood playing game
At 8 or 7 playing baseball on the street
10 or 11 he was swimming on the lake
In his teens going on dates
What a waste
Look at him now, a sublime employee
He sat in the man's house, a small quaint house
4 little children sprouting about
They didn't have much but they didn't seem to care
They had laughter everywhere
What we wonder? How was this so?
A family so middle class yet they have so much to show
His children never laughed, his wife never sang
They were always far to busy doing their things
Yet united they were this family they be
Is this something money can't solve?
$=happiness? No?
He wrinkled his face
He left that dinner with a full stomach but a sour face
He went to bed alone, his family far away
His wife in Florida his children in private school
His memories empty except of his money pool
What had he done he wonder as he dreamt
A tear came from his eyes as he realize
He wasted his life away.
Money can't solve everything.
