The sun was slowly setting and dusk was creeping over the shoulders
of the world. People all over America were settling down for the night's
slumber. Some, however, were getting ready for a long night of partying and
dancing. Or maybe they were little girls laughing and giggling about events
of the past week. Maybe they were sitting in a bar getting drunk or high.
Although very different, all had one thing in common. They were all in the
company of people, surrounded by friends and strangers alike. Whether in
bars, restaurants, homes, or hotels, there is almost always at least one
person with you.
What if you were alone in the darkness? What if you were in bad
company? Maybe even wandering where not even the New York Police dare
patrol in the hours of darkness. The hours when all evil takes place.
Chapter one
"Justin crawled through the slimy, stingy alley looking for his
glasses. His whole body was shaking so violently, he could barely keep his
balance. Suddenly, creeping silently out from behind a dumpster, the axe
murderer stalked behind Justin, his axe glinting in the moonlight, dripping
with blood. Raising it above Justin's head, Justin turned around. Slice!"
"Stop it! Stop it Brian you jerk! I can't take this story anymore!"
Kristin, who was nearly in tears, cried.
"Sorry if you can't Handle it, but it is my party!" Brian snapped
sarcastically. "You can leave if you want to, princess."
With that, Kristin hopped up and stormed out of the room.
"I didn't really think she'd leave," Kristin heard Brian say to his
friends as she left the room.
Kristin and Brian were twins, but they were totally different. Brian
was tall dark haired and eyed, popular, and of course snobby and stupid.
Kristin was of medium height, blonde haired, blue eyed, shy and
intelligent. She couldn't handle some things as well as her brother could.
She stomped into her room, slammed the door, and jumped onto her bed.
It had been a terrible week. She hadn't made the school soccer team, she
got a D- on her math test and her boyfriend had just broken up with her.
Her long sun colored hair lay askew over her face; her usually calm,
vibrant grey eyes were cloudy and dull. She could hear her brother and his
friends laughing downstairs, probably at her. Since her parents weren't
home, she didn't know what to do.
"Maybe I'll leave for a while," she thought to herself. "Why don't I
run away? Yeah! That is what I'll do! I'll go to Central Park. It is soooo
big, my parents would never find me there and it'll just be for the night
any way!"
In a flash, Kristin had a bag packed and was climbing down the
slippery slope of her house.
Arriving at the entrance of Central Park, Kristin was amazed at how
frightening it looked in the darkest hours of the night. It was nearly one
in the morning as Kristin found a bench to sleep on near the calm dark duck
pond. Kristin lay down and try her hardest to fall into a sound sleep, but
it wouldn't come. From a far she could hear the low rumble of voices.
"Did you bring the money?" The deeper voice asked.
"Only if you brought the stash." The second voice wasn't as deep and
was whinier.
"Let me see the money and then I'll give you the stash." Whiny voice
hands over the money and the next thing Kristin knew there was a noise
worse than thunder crashed through the air. She let out a long blood-
curling scream as a reaction for it took her but a second to realize that
it was a gun that made that wretched noise.
Kristin started to get up and run, but before she could even get 10
yards away a pair of strong hands grabbed her and pulled her down. Before
she could react, Kristin blacked out, not knowing when, or if, she would
wake in the morning.
