But I'm Popular: The Diary of A . . .
Prologue: Behind Blue Eyes
September 1
"Mother, I can't believe you!" a girl with short blond hair yelled as she slammed her hand on the table. "I'm the most popular girl in school; Lord knows what the people will think if, ME, me of all people got glasses! Why can't I get laser eye surgery?!"
"Oh, Sae will you just stop." her mother said. Her mother was shorter than her daughter and her hair wasn't blond, but brown and bright blue eyes shown against her pale complexion. "Having glasses will make you look sophisticated!" she said enthusiastically.
"Yeah, right mother, what planet are you from?" Sae walked angrily out of her kitchen. She walked into her room slamming the door behind her, the pictures on her wall slightly falling to the side.

"Why don't you just let her get the surgery, I mean we have the money, why not get the best for our little girl?" a man asked, assumingly Sae's father.
"But Tomurai, I think she needs to grow up a little, plus I don't think that is safe."
"Safe, schmafe, Atsuki, It's perfectly safe." Tomurai said in a humorous tone as he hugged his wife.
"If you say so." she said reluctantly, the feeling of uneasiness not leaving her, the tightness in her chest not loosening.

Today I go and get my corrective eye surgery.
Sae and her mother pulled into the hospital parking lot and made their way toward the building.
"I couldn't thank you enough mummy, thank you." Sae said, a smile gleaming across her face.
"Thank your father, I'm still somewhat unsure of this whole ordeal." They approached the entrance walking through the automatic doors.
"You must be Sae." a woman said approaching them. She had a nurses' attire on and had long black hair down to her backside.
Sae nodded and walked along with the woman as she led her through the different areas of the hospital until she reached a small room toward the end of the hospital. It was pure white, the walls were white, the lights were white but it wasn't a gleaming white light, but dull, almost eerie.

Sae was quickly settled into a chair in which she was to be transported from there to where she would be operated on.
"Now Sae, count back from 100." the man said as he gave her a shot in her right arm. She closed her eyes and started to count.
"100 . . . 99 . . . 98 . . . 97 . . ."
She soon found herself dozing off into the world of dreams, the world visited to whenever one experiences the effects of anesthetics.

It's been days since my surgery, now I finally get to take off the bandages.
Sae sat in her bed, or so she thought was her bed. She could recognize the fluffy pillows surrounding her. She could hear her parents voices around her but couldn't quite place where they were.
"Ok honey, are you ready?" Her father asked. "We are going to taking off the bandages now."
Sae nodded, eager to see how it turned out. Her father took of the tape slowly and started to unravel the gauze. With the remaining gauze gone, Sae finally opened her eyes.
"I can see!" she said looking up at her parents.
"Oh, you look so beautiful." they said in unison.
"I told you Atsuki, she wouldn't of looked right with glasses-" her father began. "Isn't that right Sa-"
"Grandma?" Sae said softly looking into the corner.
Her parents exchanged glances. "Must be some after effects of the anesthetics, honey, grandma died 10 years ago, you should get some more rest sweetie." they said putting her down into bed once more.
"No mom, dad, I'm serious, look it's grandma!" she pointed to the empty corner . . .
Or what her parents thought was an empty corner.
To be continued in Chapter 1: In Your Eyes
What the hell? What exactly is Sae seeing? Could it be the aftermath of the anesthetics . . . I think not. This story may or may not urge you to go out and get corrective eye surgery. Thanks for reading.
