This story belongs to me as well as the characters. This story is actually based off of a dream I had which I still have to send to the people that requested I send it to them (sorry) ^^;; Thanks for the reviews everyone. (The chapter title of this one is actually a song by peter Gabriel.)

But I'm Popular: The Story of A.
Chapter 1: In Your Eyes

September 7

Just what is happening to me?

"Sae, honey, would you like something to eat?" a voice said from behind the closed door.

"No thank you mother, maybe later." She shut her eyes to stop the images from invading her mind.

'I don't understand, why me?' she questioned burying her head in her pillow.

"Because, child, you are the chosen one."

Sae shot up from bed staring directly into the face of a grinning middle-aged dead man. His face was ashen and cold looking despite the grin on his face. He literally was falling apart; his clothes were tattered over his stocky body.

"Who---who are you?" Sae asked, her voice trembling in her throat as she spoke.

"My name is Arimun." He narrowed his eyes, or what was left of them. "You don't know who I am, do you."

"I'm . . . a chosen one?" she questioned ignoring his question.

"Well, in a way yes." he scratched his head, partially removing parts of his scalp. "Don't make me repeat myself."

"No I don't know who you are." she said rather stridently as she crossed her arms.

"Perhaps this will refresh your memory." he said as he handed over a small wallet.

She picked it up, and like the man, was somewhat rotted and on its last limbs. She opened it and found a drivers license, and a bunch of decomposing money.

"You, you're that guy on the street."

"Don't pretend you didn't see me getting mugged, I saw you look at me, you looked at me and you laughed as the guy held me at gun point."

"Well, I didn't know you were getting mugged-" she said nervously.

He rolled his eyes snatching the wallet back from her.

"Didn't know I was being mugged, what do you think I was being arrested and the gun man was a police officer, a police officer dressed in grungy clothes and a ski mask; highly unlikely."

"I still don't see what this has to do with me and why I can see you in the first place."

He laughed and let out a chronic cough mixed with blood and perhaps body organs.

"You are the chosen one; you may think of the chosen one as being a GOOD thing, it's not like your fantasy where you are the one that's supposed to save everyone and everything, this is different."

Sae looked at him, her eyebrows cocked.

"The society of the dead has chosen one, one to be punished."

"The society of the DEAD?" Sae laughed, but soon stopped as she looked into the dark eyes of this decrepit man.

"We are going to punish you, give you a life of total damnation, but we have a loop hole for you."

"And that would be?"

"You have to prove your worth, that you are a good person (which we all can clearly see that you are not) and you will go through challenges, stand up for the little guy." he glared at her. "The hospital you went to, was not a hospital at all, you should have been wary when you saw the nurse, it's policy that they need to wear their hair up, your parents were also a little too trusting, no laser eye surgery is THAT cheap, the hospital itself, is the headquarters to the Society of The Dead."

"Why me, I'm happy being the person I am, I have lots of friends and lots of popularity, why would I want to give that up?"

"Do you want to spend the rest of your life in the depths of hell?" He widened his eyes in question.

"No, but I don't want to waste my time HELPING people."

"Well, simply that's because you are a bitch." He closed his eyes in a irritated manor. "You have no choice."

He crossed his arms and glared down at her.

"Your first assignment is as follows," he began, "Tomoko Tsurushimi, a student at your high school."

"Oh man, what do I have to do with HER, she's such a freak, I make it my business not to talk to her, in fact do quite the opposite, make fun of behind her back."

"Well, it's not really behind her back considering you take the time to point at her WHILE your talking about her, making it somewhat obvious WHO you are talking about."

(I honestly hate it when people do that, if they want to be so secretive, they shouldn't point at me when they are talking about me. STUPID PEOPLE)

"I refuse."

"Sae, she's suicidal."

"That's her own problem."

"No, now it's yours because you will be the cause of it."

He pointed to the door. "Get going."

"This is asinine, down right ridiculous!" she mumbled to herself as she headed outside.

"Hey look on the bright side," he began, "you didn't want glasses, you didn't get them." (I would of preferred them to this though, but that's your own fault isn't it, Sae?)

To be Continued in Chapter 2: Tell Me What You See

Enter Tomoko Tsurushimi, the lonely gothic songwriter, enter Sae, trying to be friendly to her, cut to a cat fight. Arimun is not happy with the results and more decomposing people join the cast.
