A Friend Like Mine by HJ Bender

Foreword: This is a song I wrote and am currently composing. I hate treble clef. This piece doesn't really have anything to do with me personally.

Please pardon me if I may boast
To say that all whom know you most
Don’t know you half as well as I do.
I’ve seen your tears when you’ve cried alone
I’ve felt your anger far from home
For though I’m not there, my heart’s with you.

A fellow stout who helps me out
Of trouble that I’m in.
A teacher, best friend, brother dear
To me you’re everything.
And that’s to say you’re all I’ll ever need.

For you’re my friend, always by my side.
And no one has a better friend than mine.

When I was ill you’d care for me
Beside my bed you’d sit and sing
And those were times I think I loved you best.
It doesn’t happen overnight
A friendship like ours never might
For all things good in life take lots of time.

A smile gay when skies are grey
Is what you give to me;
And solace pert when I am hurt
There’s nought you couldn’t be
And that’s including things you’d never dream.

For you’re my friend, always by my side.
And no one has a better friend than mine.

And when the far off day shall come
When this tale of ours said and done
And we are old and full of memory
I’d like to turn to you and say:
‘We’ve come this far, don’t fall astray
Because my place in life is by your side.’

For if you’re gone I’d wander on
Without a guiding light,
A trav’ler lost on roads star-crossed,
A soul that lost its sight
And homeless if home’s where a heart resides.

For you’re my friend, always by my side.
And no one has a better friend than mine.

We’re best friends, always side by side
Together now until the end of time.
