Heart of Paper
A thousand times you've written his name
As if it would engrave it in your heart
You look away as your efforts fail
Or can you see it, do you watch
Do you feel the shredding, the ripping
Right down to the last scrap of your soul
Each time he pulls apart the pieces.
Amused with their tolerant resilience
The torn expression you hide surfaces
Slowly, yet briefly
Only to fade behind a crumpled mass
Of leafs you have personalized
Yet they meet the same fate
And fall from his fingertips in fluttering ruins
All while you readily stand to offer him
Another piece of your paper heart
