Chapter Two Mists in the Mirror

Haira looked up as the door opened and Indaratsu walked in. “So, what’s my brother doing now?” the brunette youth asked the elf.

Indaratsu sighed and ran a hand through his short silvery hair, “Bein’ a jerk, as he always is.”

Haira sighed and motioned for his friend to sit on the bed next to him. “What did he do this time?”

“Jus’ insulted the Hokonia ambassador by sayin’ that all the people on Ordina should be taught that demon’s should killed. Ya know, his usual bullshit.”

Haira stood, and may his way to the door; this would mean him apologizing to the ambassador for his brother’s words. “Well at least he didn’t hit anyone.”

“The ambassador did. That would have been fun to watch.” The elf gave a wicked grin, “She’s got quite the body too I tell ya, very, very nice.”

Haira sighed again, “With my brother and his bigotry and you harassing every good looking female ambassador we have come here-“

“Male too, I’m not picky.”

Haira decided it was time to go, opening the door he said, “Just behave yourself, and Lady Koushu wouldn’t sleep with you in a hundred years.”

“Why not? I’m sexy, I’m cute, I’m eager to please-“

“Because you’re a sixteen year old boy, and she’s twenty nine is why. You wouldn’t . . . measure up to anyone she’s already been with,” he said throwing a smirk at his friend, “In more ways than one.”

Indaratsu glared at him, “Ya don’ know that.”

“I can hazard a guess.”

“Try sleepin’ with me sometime. I think I could prove ya wrong.”

“Whatever, I’m going to apologize to Lady Koushu.”

Haira stepped over the threshold and out into the hall way and quickly made his way to the ambassador’s suite, praying that she was still there. If his father heard what Makura did his brother would be throttled.

After ten minutes of walking he finally came to Lady Koushu’s suite. He knocked and waited. The door opened and Koushu, in all her glory dressed only in a bath robe, opened the door.”

“Salti it’s about time-“ she broke off and stared at Haira who’s face was now beat red. “Prince Haira what can I do for you?”

“I just, just wanted,” he stammered than bowed, “I just wanted to apologize for what my brother said.”

Koushu waved her hand, “Oh, don’t worry about it. I’m sorry I sent your brother to the healer’s.”

Haira looked up at her wide-eyed, “You sent my brother to the healer?”

She nodded looking satisfied, “Yes, I did. Bruised my hand, your brother has one thick skull.”

Haira smiled, “I’ve been told it runs in the family.”

“On your father’s side anyway,” Koushu said, “Your mother on the other hand was one of the well tempered women on Sine.”

“You knew my mother?” Haira asked.

Koushu nodded and guided him into her room, “She was my second cousin. I was six when your parents got married.”

“Oh.”

“Sit,” she ordered and brought out a tea set, “would you like some herbal tea?”

“Yes, thank you.”

She poured him a cup and handed it to him, “You look a lot like your mother, same light brown shade,” she looked him in the eyes, “your right eye is the same sky blue as hers.” She leaned closer, “But neither her nor King Jonus have green eyes, that have pupil like a cats,” she whispered.

Haira blinked quickly and his right eye became blue and normal. “I’m sorry,” ha said with a small smile, “I was told it’s a side affect from being exposed to too much void magic while I was in mother’s womb.”

Koushu looked thoughtful for a moment then shrugged, “Well, that just might be the case.”

“What do you mean?”

“Absolutely nothing.”

They finished their tea talking about various things about like in the palace until a guard knocked on the door and asked for Haira to come with him.

“I guess I’ll see you later lady Koushu.”

Koushu waved her, “Call me Koushu, we’re family after all.”

“Alright then Koushu,” and he left.

Koushu watched him go with a smile on her face which turned into a frown. “Exposed to void magic? I wonder what other lies he’s been told.” She walked over to the mirror and waved her hand over it. “Ni go mash kaiy do-se mas,” she whispered. Frost appeared on the window’s surface.

Show me what I need to know

Tell the knowledge that I can behold

Show me the future

Show me the past

Let me see what can be seen”

The mirror shattered as she finished speaking the words. Letting out a yelp she fell backwards, throwing up her hands to protect herself. “What the hell?” She stood up and looked at the shattered remains of the mirror. “Damn, that boy has powerful magic shield.” She walked over to her bed and sat, “But why?”
