THE SINGER FAMILY
By: Mercury Angel II (Annie Chen)
CHAPTER 1
Section 1: Mom
We were doing fine before. My husband was a secretary for the manager of a factory. I stayed at home to do house work and took care of my two children, Christina and Charlie Singer. Both of them are wonderful. Christina likes to volunteer on school activities. She is a cheerleader. Charlie is an adorable kid. He is a very funny kid, and he has many friends at school.
My husband and I love our children very much. Christina and Charlie were free to do almost everything they wanted. We trusted our children to make up their own decisions. Even though, the kids always would argue about watching TV and where to go on weekends. I believe that there will be one day that they will get along with each other. Our family has a great time living happily together. This is the happy family that I've been always dreamed of.
One day, there was a call from the hospital. It was a friend of my husband's. He told me that there was a fire in the factory, and the door was stuck. Only a few people managed to break the windows and got out safely. The others died before the fire engine came. My husband didn't get out; he died from breathing too much smoke.
At first, I did not believe my husband's friend; I thought he was playing a trick. Nevertheless, when he starting to sob on the other end of the telephone, I realize that what he said was true. But my husband could not be dead. Our family needs money. Christina and Charlie have to go to college. Their futures are still waiting for them. How will we get though the rest of our life without him? My husband was our only hope. Now he is gone. He will never come back to us again.
Section 2: Christina Singer
We just moved to Mayfield, Virginia. My mom had a hard time getting a job, but she finally did. Now she works in the mall, twelve hours a day. She works from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Mom gets so tired that every time she gets home, she falls asleep. I wish to help her out, but I can't. I have to go to school.
Since my mother found a job, I had to drive my stupid little brother home, make dinner, and do some housework until she gets home. I hate to do the housework. Mom used to do it everyday. Now I have to do the exact same thing Mom did everyday. I have a lot of homework, and I don't have enough time to finish it. Charlie doesn't have to do anything. I guess it is because he is a boy, and also the smallest kid in the family. It is so unfair. Charlie should have helped me out, but he didn't, because he's selfish. I am tired of this. I wish Dad were here. Dad would help Mom out, and then Mom would not have to work this much.
Section 3: Charlie Singer
I've always hated the first day of school. My big lousy sister woke me up at 5:00 A.M. Man, she's like a rooster! It's only 5:00 A.M. I'm so tired. I could still sleep a couple hours more. I wondered why she woke me up so early. Maybe her clock broke, and she didn't know it. Therefore, I choose to ignore her.
"I said get up! ONE! TWO! THREE! GET UP!" she yelled angrily at me, but I still didn't get up.
"Oh, that's a very bad choice you've just made, Charlie," she laughed evilly.
I didn't know what that meant until she poured a bucket of water on me. I started screaming like a girl, and I wanted to slap myself. Meanwhile, the evil Christina was laughing very hard at her poor little brother. I pretended that I enjoyed the water very much and enjoyed watching my sister's face turned green, then red, and then purple. And then she stormed out of my room, and I could finally go back to sleep.
By the time I got up, it was 8:00. My sister had already left, and she was supposed to drive me to school! Now that's the worst part of the day. So I rode my bike to school, since it was the fastest way to get to school on time. I stepped into the main entrance of the school building just before the bell rang. Score!
Section 4: Christina
It is not that I was mean to my brother this morning, because I know that Charlie always oversleeps. I was trying to wake him up, so that he could go to class on time. However, he didn't listen to me. Therefore, I went to school without him. I hope this will give Charlie a lesson. I hope he won't do it again.
I had a good time in Mayfield High School. Unexpectedly, I made a friend today. There was a girl named Michelle Bronson. She showed me the way to get to class when I got lost in the building. Later, I had some of the classes with her. Michelle is very smart and is a very nice person; I'm glad to know her. I hope that someday she and I will become best friends.
` Section 5: Ben Miller
I was running on the hallway, and then suddenly a guy bumped into me. He apologized to me, I said I'm okay. I know it was my fault, because I didn't see him. I saw his face and recognized that he is the new kid that my teacher, Miss Tripp, had been talking about. I think his name is Charlie. Charlie said the bell is going to ring, and he couldn't find the classroom. Therefore, I took him to the next class. That is how I met Charlie for the first time.
The boy's name is Charlie Singer. He is my new neighbor. After a couple weeks, we become good friends. Charlie often goes to my house after school. We do homework, chat, and watch TV together. He is a very nice and funny person. I'm glad to know Charlie, and have him as a friend.
Section 6: Michelle Bronson
On the first day of school, I met Christina, the new girl. I like to call her Chrissy, and she accepts it. The first time I saw her, she was wondering in the hallway, not knowing where she was going. I ran up to her and ask her if she needs any help. After I found out that she was lost in the building, I took her to the next class.
I have many classes with Chrissy. She is doing okay in school, but she's very lonely. However, she doesn't have a bunch of friends, like me, she needs a friend. Chrissy seems to have some kind of trouble, she's never been happy. I was curious about her.
One day, I ask Chrissy about what happened to her. She turned her face away and answered in a short sentence. "I've never been happy since my father died three months ago." So, that's why. Poor girl! I feel very sorry for Christina. I couldn't see her face; maybe she didn't want me to see. I then told her that if she needs any help, I would do my best to help. Then she showed me her first happy smile; she was happy and I'm glad.
