Florescent Dreams

Chapter 1: Meetings Under the Moon

"Hey girls," a group of girls stood in the middle of a circle of gang members with a sinister looking glint to their eyes as they closed in on them with wide pleasure held grins showing their yellowed teeth.

Mina cringed as they slowly continued to enclose the circle around them making cooing noises in order to show their pleasure in scaring them to death. Just my luck to run into a group of gangsters who think they’re all that right after we had a hangout at some joint. And on top of that, if I’m home any later tonight my mom will ground me for sure!!

Her slender figure backed up till she was back to back with her other friends. They had decided to hangout in the downtown part of the city at some club and got hooked up in all the fun they didn’t notice how much time flew by. Mina was a high school freshman and was the top of her class. You could describe her about middle height though she was constantly teased by her little brother on how short she was compared to her friends. She had a dark purple color to her hair which were constantly adorned with blood red beads to tie up a portion of her hair.

Looking at the foreboding gang members in front of them, she whispered hoarsely to her friends as her voice flickered with fear and dread, "On the count of three. We should run as quickly as possible through the tightening encirclement and dash down the alleys. Don’t wait for anyone, just as long as you get help everything will be fine."

The gang members snickered as one of them muttered something to the other girls, "Now what are you guys up to? Saying how cute we look?"

Yeah right!! Like probably in a million years!! Mina felt like punching and squashing the guy to death at that remark but she refrained from doing so as she slowly concentrated for an opening in the tightening death circle. AHAH!! There’s ONE!! Bracing her position as if ready to break the circle she whispered through slow breaths, "One… two… THREE!"

At the signal, the group quickly ran in random directions, some in groups of one to groups of two, cutting through the border of the circle and quickly disappearing down alley ways and out of sight.

"Get them!" yelled the gang leader as he quickly sprinted after the nearest one to him.

Huffing out of breath she turned to look behind her and could find no one following. "That’s odd, I was sure I heard foot steps behind me. I best not let my guard down at any rate." Continuing to look behind her, she ran straight into something warm and was sent sprawling backwards as rain broke from the towering clouds.

Landing hard on the cold, soggy, and dirty floor, Mina looked up slowly with her eyes partially closed from the pain that surged through her body from the impact.

Standing in front of her with a towering expression were one of the gang members, he smiled down at her feeble figure on the cold, wet floor as another gangster showed up cutting off her exit.

The scene made her blood run cold as she stared into her captor’s eyes that showed their real intentions with her. In which didn’t make her feel any better from where she sat on the ground than she did. Well since I didn’t exactly get any help, one of my friends must’ve reached some place to get help. I must have hope in what little odds I have.

"Common girl, get up already. You’re coming with us," one of the gangsters said as he bared his sickening smile which was enough to make her reside on her placement on the floor. The rain continued to poor down soaking her from head to toe as she continued to sit on floor paralyzed with fear.

This only made them run out of patience as one of them kicked her and yelled aggressively, "Get up you mangy little slut!!"

Mina hit the cement hard as her hair laid around her going in may different directions. She didn’t want to get up. She didn’t want to find out what would happen to her now. She’d even prefer death itself if that was the only other option she could take out of this mess.

Closing her eyes she waited for another blow to her soaked body as every intake of air seemed to quicken. I don’t want to die, but I will if it means to not endure the pain that will surely come later. It seemed her body temperature was dropping even as she thought this up. Laying down on the cold floor with rain wasn’t going to help her either as her vision started to get hazy and then come back together. This continued repeatedly as she tried to look around from her position on the ground.

"Get up girl!" the gangster yelled as his voice rang through the alley as he continued to kick her until she sat up groggily with her eyes giving a glassy look over them. "That’s right now common, we’re going."

From where she sat, a black figure dropped from the skies of the alley way as his sword sliced straight down the middle of the gangster that stood before her. The blood splashed onto the walls as the sword made every contact with the body splitting it in half as it collapsed to the ground.

The black figure turned around and licked the blood off his sword as his matted silver hair shadowed over his face covering one of his eyes up. The glance he gave the other man behind her with his piercing silvery blue eyes was enough to send him cowering into the ground.

"I-I’m outta here!!" turning around the captor started running down the alley as fast as he could, but before he even took but three steps, the clean sweep of the blade cut through his very body shattering everything it touched.

He stood there letting the rain poor down on him for a few minutes before turning around to face the girl who by now came back to her senses and had cowered over to a nearby wall with fear coursing through her whole body that was already numb from the cold.

Seeing him slowly walk over to her, she looked up at him as she stuttered through short breaths of air, "Who-who are you?!!" She had to force herself to scream in order to make her seem even audible. The rain continued to pour down on them, as the man stopped his assault in front of her and crouched down to eye level.

"You needed help didn’t you?"

Looking at him with a shaky glance, she opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. The numbing cold continued to take over as she fought against falling unconscious around this stranger who had just killed two people with one dash of a sword.

Opening her mouth to try again, she was quickly silenced by a finger as the stranger whispered, "Another time." Feeling two arms pick her up, she could feel the warmth pass through her body in quickly surges as she was securely held towards him. I feel like I could just… fall… asleep right… now…

Tilting her head against his chest she could feel his muscles contracting and relaxing, she quickly pulled away and sat straight up full and awake just when he sprang from the ground up into the air and landing on to the roof of a building and continuing to leap from roof to roof making it look like a breeze.

Whispering faintly she pleaded, "Wait, we have to save my friends… please…" Unable to make another sentence though she tried since she doubted he heard what she had said.

Noticing that he didn’t even glance at her, she leaned back against his chest again and blushed slightly though too dazed to really notice anything. "There over there aren’t they?" He stopped abruptly towering over her group of friends once again surrounded by the gang.

Glancing over towards where he was looking she saw them and nodded slowly and slightly as she was drained of energy. He set her down and passed his hand over her face, "You’ll be fine now." Lifting her up again, he jumped off the building and placed her on the ground as he unsheathed his slivery crimson sword and quickly ran through the group slashing them apart with quick gestures.

Leaving the girls leaning onto each other stumbling and afraid to look at the new stranger as the rain finally stopped. Blood was spilt everywhere as body parts laid on the floor gruesomely displayed.

Turning to glance over at the group of girls he hailed a taxi and said in a cold voice that sent shivers down their back, "You better get out of here while you still can. And take your friend with you."

Out from the alley walked in Mina who seemed a little dizzy but recovered from the slight fever she had earlier. As the other girls crowded into the taxi and ushered Mina along, she stopped at the door and looked back to find the stranger gone.

"You guys go on ahead… I’m going to go ask for the strangers name and thank him."

"You sure Mina? He seemed pretty urgent to get us out of here."

"Yes I’m sure, now you guys get on out of here. Besides, you can tell my parents if anything happens to me," smiling Mina shut the taxi door and signaled them to go off.

Turning around, she glanced down the alleyway and made her way through it as she got a gutty feeling that maybe she shouldn’t have stayed at all. I’m beginning to regret this…

Shivering, she quickly rubbed her arms in a way to try and get her circulation to start working again but to no avail. Rounding the corner she saw the same black figure from earlier, only he was deep in thought and didn’t seem to be aware of someone else being there.

"Ex-Excuse me?" hesitatingly, she revealed herself from behind the corner slowly and making small steps towards him leaving a good distance so she could run if something happened.

Blinking, he slowly looked her direction and whispered with a threatening tone, "What are you still doing here?"

Taken aback from the tone of voice he was using she stuttered nervously as her blood ran cold, "I-I wanted to thank you and ask for your n-name." Blushing she stared at the floor and hesitated as if deciding whether to run or not.

Glancing back up she found she was face to face with him only a mere inch separating their faces. Blushing she managed to get out feeling her face burn up, "I-I c-can… l-leave…"

Leaning forward, he brushed the side of her cheek with his lips and whispered in her ear calmly, "No need for thanks. Seeing you is enough. You better get out of here now though. Run as fast as you can past the bridge into the other part of the city. You’ll be safer there. The name is Spire." Pulling back he kissed her on the cheek and disappeared into the skies.

Feeling her face burn up, she quickly turned around and calmed herself down as she ran towards the end of the alley and out into the streets as she heard a voice from above.

"Now where are you going little missy?"

Looking up, her eyes widened as what stood there were two figures clad in dark cloaks and bat like wings that spread from their backs. Remembering from earlier in the day on the latest news broadcast about parts of the city being raided and having no survivors and only the trace of blood that splashed the walls.

"Y-You’re… Y-you’re vampires!!"
