Chapter 6
Slayers
Finally coming to, she realized that she wasn’t in her room causing her to jolt upright and search the room for anything that seemed at all familiar. The room was luxuriously built, with a full-length mirror and white walls that had golden rims.
“Well aren’t you going to get ready for school?”
Her purple eyes turned to look at Kadashi’s misty green ones. “SCHOOL!” Shouting earnestly, she flung her feet off the bed, trying hurriedly to get to the bathroom only to trip. A piercing scream echoed about the mansion as a loud thud followed abruptly afterwards.
Scrambling to get up she only managed to fall on the ground in a heap again with sheets strung all about her. Shoving them away after ripping and tearing some as she scrambled into the bathroom shutting the door relentlessly.
Mina’s school uniform hung on a clothes hanger which she quickly grabbed and dressed into without giving a thought about how it got there in the first place.
Racing out of the bathroom, she quickly exited the room with Kadashi walking slowly behind her with a hint of amusement in his eyes. Mina quickly ran down the stairs and looked about hurriedly trying to find the kitchen in order to find something to eat only to come up with darkened rooms.
That’s right, she was in the so-called ‘haunted’ manor.
“We don’t have a kitchen if you were wandering. If you want something to eat we’ll just stop by some place before we get to school.”
Looking up to find Kasashi slowly making his way downstairs she just shook her head and replied hurriedly, “No that’s okay, we’re late for school anyways. Plus it’s a far distance to walk there.”
His pale face stared at Mina’s back before he broke into a smile, he placed his hand gently on her shoulder whispering, “Who says we’re going to walk?”
Mina looked over at Kadashi weirdly as she was trying to think of a way to get to school other than walking. They both weren’t of age to drive yet anyway, at least they both didn’t ‘look’ the age of driving. “Then how do you suggest we get to school in the first place.”
Her face pouted as she tried to think of ways to get to school before his voice broke through her thoughts, “That’s easy.” Opening the door as he winced as daylight streamed into the dark empty house, he walked outside and waited for Mina to follow. “Like this,” His hands wrapped around her knees securely as the other held her shoulders to his chest.
A reddening feeling started to rise to her cheeks as she tried to look anywhere except at his face that was probably gloating at her actions.
Before she could put up a struggle in order to get out of his firm grip, she found herself in the air with the wind gliding across her skin. Tucking her head closer towards his chest she closed her eyes as the feel of gravity and fall started to overtake her senses. She wanted to scream as she felt the ground beneath her slip away.
It was only a brief moment that Kadashi allowed his feet to stay fixated on the floor before he pushed off into another leap. Looking down at the girl that he held in his arms he found her snuggled up towards him in fear as he hand gripped his sleeve as if her life depended on it. Her eyelids were squeezed shut which only made him want to laugh.
After a few more bounds they finally reached the entry gate into the school in less that a couple of minutes. He slowly placed her back down on the floor as gracefully as he had picked her up.
The feeling of the floor beneath her feet slowly came back into her conscience, Mina pried her eyes open slowly. Stone gray fencing lined the perimeters of the school and at the entrance there was a red gateway as if it led to a shrine. A sigh escaped her lips, she was glad to be safe on the ground.
Prying her eyes towards her left she found Kadashi quickly entering the facility as if they never even knew each other. I guess that’s how it was going to be from now on.
Clutching her bag closer to herself, she straightened her hair out a little more before entering through the gate and walking up the steps to her classroom. Everyone was in idle chatter as every morning, but she couldn’t help but feel out of place. She knew something that they didn’t.
Walking over to her desk she found herself on edge. What was it that seemed to be watching her?
Her eyes scanned the room abruptly to find the source. Her search was rewarded as blue eyes caught her attention. Was it another vampire?
The owner of the blue eyes had an icy tone to them, they seemed to also hold a mystery to them, almost as if they knew more than they saw. Blonde bangs somewhat shielded them from any onlookers, his skin was pale and his hair was messily combed but came up in beautiful spikes.
Time seemed endless as their eyes continued to stare into each others.
“Hey Mina! I gotta’ ask you something if that’s okay, it’s about the other night,” her friend’s voice seemed to cut through her thoughts as well as their staring contest as she swerved Mina straight to her seat, pushing her down into her seat. “Now what was that?”
Glancing from her desk, then up to her friend who had her hand placed on the table with somewhat of a frustrated look. “What was what?”
“Oh don’t give me that crap, you know just as well as I do what I mean.” Glancing around the room she kneeled closer towards Mina as she whispered, “You were with the hottest guy in the school the other day and here you are hitting on the new hot student that just transferred in,” putting on a sly look on her face she nudged her friend playfully, “well which one’s heart are you going to break?”
Blushing madly, Mina shook her head quickly mumbling out, “No… No I’m not interested in any they just looked familiar that’s all.”
Mina could feel her face turning as red as a melon, she couldn’t stand it any more!! Her friend kept staring at her and it was extremely unnerving, she hoped she’d just take the answer and just head back to her seat but things just had to turn otherwise.
Staring at her friend’s uneasiness made her even more curious at what Mina was keeping closed behind her mouth. Before she could speak the teacher entered the classroom causing her to turn and head back to her seat after sending Mina the look ‘we’ll talk later.’
Sighing grateful at the timing of the teacher, she pulled out pencils and paper from her backpack as she readied herself to take notes.
The teacher looked across the room before signaling the new student who she had been staring at earlier to the head of the classroom, “This is your new classmate, Skye. I hope you all treat him nicely.” The teacher nodded approvingly to signal that he could take his seat after he politely bowed to the whole class.
Skye, as Mina pondered the name, it didn’t seem to be a name of any vampire she knew. The blonde headed in her direction making her posture stiffen as he brushed past her and took a seat that stood vacant behind her.
That was great. She just met someone that wouldn’t stop staring at her and now he could watch her only from a few inches away!! Her luck really wasn’t turning out so well for this new day.
Mina scribbled madly at her notes trying to get her mind off of the student that sat behind her with his bone chilling eyes. It only caused her to shiver at the thought that he was staring her even now. His looks were burning holes into the back of head!!
“You’re half a vampire aren’t you?”
She almost lost it. Mina jerked her head back violently as her chair jolted backwards causing the whole class to stare at her. Giving an awkward smile to reassure everyone that it wasn’t anything before quickly burying herself back into her notes. Did she hear right? Did he say vampires? And how would he know?
From the time this girl entered the room, he could feel her abnormal aura. She was somewhat entangled in this mess of vampires somehow, but he couldn’t find any key advantage to Spire for a girl to be half a vampire.
Curiosity seemed to peek his senses, he had to know for sure, “You’re half a vampire aren’t you?”
His icy eyes caught all the motions that she displayed. Her figure went rigid before she jumped in shock, he had asked a question that had it the gold mine. His curiosities would have to wait till after class though.
His eyes continued to stare into hers as it had earlier in the morning. She continued to stare at him trying to show as little of emotions she could about her uneasiness, “Excuse me.”
Skye’s blue eyes never left her own, “I’d like to ask you something.”
“Well unfortunately I don’t have time to answer questions!” She huffed impolitely as she tried to look like she was in a rush to be somewhere.
“Mina.”
Turning around she found Kadashi, his hair was ruffled a bit and most of the people had left the classroom. His once calm green eyes were now more vibrant and more alive that it ever was. She could practically feel the tension in the room raise twenty notches.
“Get away from him,” Kadashi’s eyes never left the new student even to spare a glance in Mina’s direction to see if she was obeying his commands or not.
Mina did edge away towards Kadashi, “What is so threatening?” She reached up to tug on Kadashi’s sleeve as he turned in her direction with the look of hatred crossing his once emotionless mask.
“What kind of question is that? He’s a slayer!” Kadashi’s voice was trembling with anger and frustration as he broke his gaze with Mina to look back at the blonde that stood before them, staying calm, but his hand was reaching towards his back.
Mina looked from one to the other still confused, a slayer? Here?
Hearing the slide of a blade, Skye switches his footing as he thrust himself forward with the blade drew forward. Before she had time to register what was going on, she was quickly shoved towards the floor away from Kadashi as two metallic objects clang against each other.
The air of metal and auras clashing against each other filled the room…
