Crystal's feet pounded the hard earth, cracked by the hot Australian sun. Her hair, blonde, but tinted sky blue, swung to and fro in its purple hair band. Her slender legs were long and tanned, as were her arms which ended in hands with lilac nails.

As she approached the red ribbon that signalled the finish-line, she put on an extra spurt of speed and overtook the girl in front. No-one cheered. Crystal had been expecting this; she was an outcast, good at everything - too good at everything, a real little angel, acing every test and top grades in every subject.

After school, she went home and changed into a pale pink tie-dye top and a baby-blue mini-skirt. Her parents were away for the weekend, so she could do anything she wanted. And Crystal knew exactly how she was going to spend it...
