I am the darker sister
Behind the broken mirror.
The washed-out reflection of drying days
The bittersweet longing for that which is not
And never was, but still lingers on the back of the tongue, the
throat
I am the Eldest
With the broken soul.
Death
Little sister, gentle mother
Midwife to the Life Beyond
Do not come
I yet am
The salt of immeasurable tears caught
In the prison of ancient forging, locked
Behind bars, behind a chain of grim desire.
But who calls me, father? Who beckons?
Night
Forgotten sibling, silent healer
Forlorn temptress, broken pride
I am here.
Do not call.
The once-gleaming sword is fallen, fallen to rust and rot.
The pale sentry witnesses all, caught in its own unchanging nature
Even as the stillborn chaos wrecks the land in glorious abandon
Where do you flee as the stars fall?
Darkness
Elder brother, solemn father
Lover of the frozen stillness
Trapped in echoes endlessly
Dance with me, Dark Father.
And when the last frantic footsteps have faded to the abyss
Who will come for me? Who shall mourn?
As the ravens claim their kingdom, who
Shall shake the faded blanket of the sky?
All but I -
I am the darker sister
Beyond the shattered mirror.
