we sang your song 'round the cook-fire
once before shredding your bones
and tossing you in, remember? once
upon someone's time we found
you and took you under our wing.

then we laughed and laughed and you giggled, uncertain

we tell your story now to the future
singers, you know, you ken? our kin, we
miss you, dearest; you were one
of the best. At the time.

which isn't saying much, considering the times.

then we laughed and laughed and you chuckled, a bit braver

we'll be telling of them next and you'll
be just another name, we hope you realize -
we hold you in a special place in our heart but
ah well, you know how these things go. there just
isn't enough time in the day.

and we laugh and laugh and you give in and laugh, relieved

but remember. we love you.
which is all that matters, yes/no? depending
on how you look at things.

and we still laugh and laugh and where did your voice go?
