Chapter 1

Impossible as that occurrence had seemed at the time though, I was soon to find that it was in fact reality, something that I was really able to do. Similar scenarios were to happen 3 times after that first fateful afternoon before I actually believed that I was making the objects explode, or fly across the room, whichever the case may be. The problem now was how I was going to keep it from my parents, they already looked down on me enough as it was, I didn't need them to think of me as even more of a freak. My predicament was, I wasn't controlling what was happening, they were happening entirely of their own accord. I sighed and took out the skirt I was to wear for than evening. I detested these 'family' dinners we had whenever a friend of my father's or someone important was coming over. I pulled the grey pleated woollen skirt up and turned to look at myself in the mirror. Tonight it was the latter, a higher class politician was coming over for dinner, and I was to make sure I smiled and was polite and above all dressed decently, which of corse meant I had to devest of my jeans and doc martins. Deciding I looked presentable enough I pulled my hair back and walked down stairs. My parents, as per usual, would be in the lounge having pre-dinner drinks with their guest so plastering a smile on my face I walked over and into the lounge. I was quite taken back when a young man, probably only in his early twenties, stood up to greet me, my mother soon followed.

"Heath this is our daughter Narelle. Narelle, this is Heath Winscott, the son of Peter Winscott the politician. Following your father's footsteps as a politician" she said in a fond voice giving him what I think she though was a charming smile as she addressed him. I shuddered slightly as I suppressed back the urge to groan.

"Very pleased to meet you Narelle" Heath said holding is had out for me to shake. I smiled that awful fake smile that my mother so liked me to wear at these occasions and shook his hand.

"Please, call me Nell," I said as I noticed my father's stern look over the back of Heath shoulder.

"Why don't you come join us Narelle?" I heard the order in my fathers and walked obediently over and sat down in the spot next to Heath.

"We were just discussing the recent change in government. Tell me Heath, if you don't mind me asking, how did you get to be so successful at such a young age, I meant you must only be in your early twenties?" he smiled taking a sip of his wine before answering.

'Yes, well of course it always help to know the right people, and I had a few connections in higher places that helped push me up the ranks quickly. Then there was also my father and his reputation. However despite that, I mostly worked to get to where I am today" More like daddy dearest did what politicians do best and bribed a few people I thought cynically. I didn't really listen the rest of the conversation but rather watched how my mother flirted shamelessly with him. I noticed how she was wearing a low v-neck dress and kept leaning over in front of him. Shaking my head I looked away, she really did disgust me.

It was about an hour later, when I was sure that I was going to die of boredom, we finally moved into the dining room for dinner. Dinner went by relatively smoothly; we ate in a comfortable silence throughout most of the main corse, passing idle comments here and there before our plates were cleared an a round of tea, coffee and biscuits was brought in by the maids. I was shocked at how well everything had gone, of corse though being the pessimist I was I knew that something was bound to go wrong before the night was over. At that time I didn't know ironic it had been that I thought of that at that precise time. No more that a few seconds after the thought had passed through my head I reached my hand out to get another biscuit when the WHOLE tray flew up off the table an into my hands well and truly capturing everyone's attention. I felt the colour drain from my cheeks and my heartbeat quicken to an unnatural pace as the all gaped at me still holding the tray in the air above the table. They all stared at me, my mother with a look of disbelief and slight fear on her face, father's face sporting a look that -to be blunt- simply said 'what the hell?' and Heath was looking at me through calculating eyes. I shuddered as he studied me with them. Slowly lowering the tray to the table I kept my eyes on Heath. He looked like a wild cat about to pounce. However surprisingly enough it was my mother who recovered first.

"Out! Get away from me you FREAK! Out now!" Not complaining, I seized the moment and promptly stood up from my seat running up the stairs to my room and quickly closed the door behind me. My breathing was coming fast as I looked around the room not knowing what to do next. I opened the door again slightly to see if they were talking about me.

"This is a great opportunity, think of the use she could be to us! I'll have to speak to superiors but I am sure the government would pay you millions for a girl like her! She would have to be one in a million, may be even a billion!" I frowned sticking my head out a little further.

"Millions you say? Well we certainly don't want a freak like her living here if your willing to take her off our hands as soon as you get back to us with a price then I think you'll have a deal" I shut the door, they were going to sell me to the government! Panic rose within me, I had to get away, there was no way I would be sold to anyone, who knew what they might do to me. I moved to my cupboard and opened the door pulling out my backpack I filled it with underwear, money and other essentials. Quickly changing out of my skirt I got back into my jeans and docs and walked over to my window and went to pull it open. Locked.

"Shit!" I swore under my breath before looking back at it. If I could make things fly why not this? I thought, placing my hands over the lock and concentrate on wanting it to open. I didn't really expect it to work, but when the lock on the window clicked open I didn't waste anytime complaining before I crawled out the window and swiftly locked it after me.

I crawled along the roof and down the lattice on the side of the house. I heard the voices of my parents saying goodbye to Heath out the front.

"I'll get back to you by tomorrow hopefully, if not then before the end of the week at least" I heard his car door close an knew I had to hurry. Shuddering with anger as the adrenaline that was pumping though me spurred me on as I jumped over the back fence and ran off into the darkness.

I hadn't thought about where I was going to go as I hitched a ride a few hours later. I only knew it had to be the opposite of where ever I decided to go. So after travelling west for an hour or two I got out and found a bank so I could draw some money out before hitching another ride and doubling back the way I had come. I arrived at my final destination for the night roughly 5 hours later dead on my feet. I had no idea where I was but it looked no place I had ever been before. I checked in to a shabby looking hotel, which cost little more than a meal at MacDonald's, before traipsing off to find my room. I shuddered at the sight of the bed covers as I dropped my bag to the floor before opting to sleep in the bath, which looked ten times cleaner. I shiver and pulled my jumper around me further as a tear slid down the side of my face. What was I going to do now?
