Await

Singing in the silence - heart as cold as lead
All the world is sleeping, but some of them are dead.
Stirring in the twilight - laughing for the crowd
Bleeding, bare, and broken - but your head's unbowed.

Hawk with twisted feathers - teeth behind a smile
Walking past the seashore - drowning in denial.
Ancient dust unending - echoed empty pain
Cringing in the sunlight - and gasping in the rain.

Softly whispered promise - brazen trumpet's blow
Howling for the masses - and weeping for the foe.
Bitter words of comfort - shard of broken mirror
Glimpse of moon arising - flinching from the jeer.

Writhing to the rhythm - and falling from the fleet.
Waiting for the sunrise - and falling in the street.
Pride without redemption fast to dust shall fade
Longing for the sunlight - and trapped within the shade.
