Jolene

Your life's a fated tragedy,
Faults scrawled across the wall;
You do not read them, dare not try,
Too heavy now. You're ready to fall.

It was long coming and you expect
Now that it's here, you're ready,
But the bruises of the load still linger
And you cannot dam the tears, still steady.

The thought that there's someone out there
Who has it far worse than what you get,
Is no longer any comfort to you
Things aren't as bad as you make them. Yet.

But that creeping, consuming thing,
That announces only to the procrastinator,
Still catches up and you are buried.
No escape either way, you are sure.

But this visitor is wont to leave
And take you with them if you will,
Or stay a while until you fall
Crushed, paralyzed. Still.

Your life's a faded tragedy,
You wrote it on the wall.
You dare not try, you cannot read it
You're climbing now, ready to fall.
