Shadows at midnight, they pick at your mind
Haunting you in your dreams, taking their time
They whisper sweet thoughts, taunting and distant
Willing you toward sleep, made of nothing, barely existent
And then as your will to fight, fades to shadows too
They rip at the flesh of your soul, before there's anything you can do
They poison your mind, leak into your flesh
Quietly they sneak, waiting to invade
With your memories, your feelings they mesh
Until you are lost, taken by a foe you cannot evade
You are a beast, a slave to their will
A monster that thrashes the sheets and is mindless and dumb
Without thoughts of your own, you thoughtlessly kill
You are not yourself, without your mind, a vassal with limbs so numb.
Shadows at midnight, they tear you and shred
Silent but deadly, they steal you away
Edging and creeping, o'er bolster and bed
Willing to feed until the fingers of the sun break a new day.
