For as long as

I can remember,

I thought that men

were great.

They always got

the good parts

and always got

the good lines.

My earliest heroes were men.

There was Duke,

who was a giant

in his own right.

There was the Man from Snowy River

who had the best theme music

and the prettiest land and horse

I had ever seen.

And there was my dad

who stood tall and faced the danger

and whose beard always scratched me

as a child.

Of course there was

Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor

-I always wanted to sing in the rain.

There was also the Marx boys.

Chico, Groucho, Gummo, Zeppo and Harpo.

Harpo expecially taught me

that being silent didn’t mean

that you couldn’t be exciting.

Most of all

I’ve always looked up to men

as a girl.

What does that say

about me?

I honestly

don't know.
