Rain Ballad

The rain I see is grey and dreary
As it falls upon a young man's head.
He lets a sigh escape sounding old and weary,
For today he was meant to wed.

Perhaps he should have kept her,
Not allowed her to run away,
He loved her and he was sure.
Because he loved her, he did not force her to stay.

A woman runs away,
The man stands alone.
He shall let her have her way,
He stays and allows her to roam.

Away on her own,
She recalls the past few hours.
Her love for him, she had never truly shown,
The words he had said to her had such powers.

The downpour continues upon her white-clad head,
Her thoughts are on her Love,
The man she was meant to wed.
She turns around to face him, and gives herself a shove.

A woman runs away,
The man stands alone.
He shall let her have her way,
He stays and allows her to roam.

A silent tear rolls down his rain-stained cheek,
The torrent beats relentlessly upon his broken heart.
Leaving his body is numb and weak.
He feels as though nothing can heal his broken part.

A true tale of love and care
This young man has shown.
But to what can we compare
His sadness and hurt so intricately woven?
A woman runs away,
The man stands alone.
He shall let her have her way,
He stays and allows her to roam.

No one can truly know
How he really feels,
A pain that cannot show,
It eats you from the inside out, a pain of one thousand needles.

The woman runs through the wood,
Her cheeks now stained as well.
Her heart beats as she never thought it could.
Her life without him, she realises, would be a living Hell.

A woman runs away,
The man stands alone.
He shall let her have her way,
He stays and allows her to roam.

Her light in the darkness,
Her knight in shining armour.
She sees him and wishes to confess
Her love for him; and he; his love for her.

He looks up and sees his waiting Love,
He wonders if she's just a dream.
A gift perchance, from above?
"I love you," she whispers and he realises what she means.

A woman runs away,
The man stands alone.
He shall let her have her way,
He stays and allows her to roam.

He looks in her eyes,
As she does the same to him.
In them, he sees no possibility of lies,
She knows to be with him forever is her only whim.

The rain slows to a stop,
The Sun appears from behind the clouds,
Both their hearts hop,
As they recite their wedding vows.

A woman runs away,
The man stands alone.
He shall let her have her way,
He stays and allows her to roam.

Together at last,
Hearts overwhelmed with the other's face.
They will always remember the last moment passed.
Their eyes locked in a loving gaze.
