Clichés

Once upon a time, 'tis said
My heart turned as light as lead
Tough as nails forged in fire
Driven by the bleak desire.
"Bite the bullet" so they told.
But my heart grew icy cold.
Yes, it was once upon a time
I first tasted that chill rhyme.

Deep as the seas my pain did soar
I stood on threshold of the door.
Hard as rock and white as snow
Inferno blazing, still did grow.
No whispering wind would grace my sky -
I saw all with the tiger's eye.
The rustling leaves, the pouring rain
Brought dark reflections of true pain.

The bated breath, the heaving sigh
Alone within a throng was I.
I longed for light, I longed for peace
I longed for hour it would cease.
No shining stars would grace my eyes
I walked beneath the shadowed skies
But Dawn must conquer every night
And on white wings I took my flight.
