Scared of the Dark

My heart is bound to morning sun,
And when it's dark, I come undone,
I'm scared because I cannot see,
The walls close in, entrapping me.

I try to keep a light within,
Underneath my ugly skin,
I'm too terrified to shout,
And so my light, it burns right out.

The midnight monsters creep around,
I hear the footsteps on the ground,
I know I must live with my fright,
Until I see the morning light.
