I wrote this song for an original character I created as part of a Creative
Writing assignment. Her name was Raksha, which, loosely translated, means
"demon". I got to wondering about her childhood, with a name like that,
and so came up with a lullaby for her.

Raksha's Song

Little demon, hear your song -
Fires glow within your eyes.
Dances passion-filled and long
Still more comely you arise.

Little demon, dream of flame
Guiding you to home-of-mind
Where you bear your secret name
And all cares are left behind.

Laugh and play with danger-friend
Through the dream that shall not end.
Follow your road, where ever it bend
Leading you beyond the night.

Little demon, bear your teeth
Dive into the Sea of Fire
Seeking that which lies beneath
All redemption, all desire.

Smallest demon, time to sleep.
Sail upon the barge of night
Let the day your worries keep.
Now, though, swim into the light.

Little fighter, pardon me
For the trouble that I be.
Close your eyes, but always see
How much I love you.

Fire-walker, wander on
Beyond the ending of the road
Where no other's ever gone
Dare to leave behind your load.

Flame-In-Shadow, journey on.
Someday you will leave the nest
We will mourn when you have gone
But, right now, you need your rest.

Lady Fearsome, close your eyes.
Walk beneath the starry skies
Claim your heart, wherever it lies
Listen - We love you.
