HeartSore

If you search for my heart, now turn aside
And please, I beg you, do not search my face
Believe once, and only once, I tried
But even stars must falter in their pace.
And only once, I gave away the key
But it is lost, past sight, beyond recall.
They swore an oath that they would set me free
But left me here to rot, chained to the wall
No more shall I give free my share of trust.
For long ago, my heart tore free and burned
And who are you, to say to me I must
Abandon lessons so, oh, so well learned?
For ages past, my soul was harsh abused
And I swore never to again be used.
