Inspired by a song I once read.

Across the Mirror

The ancient one, who lies asleep
Born on a bed of Rose and Dream -
Ignore the sob. Ignore the sneer.
Ignore the shudder and the scream.

Who, nesting far beyond our sight
(The bloodied raven in the snow)
Shall rest and muse on times fled by
(The Darkness rises from below.)

Perfection on a distant stage
(Ignore the tearing of the eyes)
Embraced by gold and kissed by love
(A broken Phoenix cannot rise)

But beauty's only one skin deep
(And what the truth that lay inside?)
What is the dream, stripped of true form?
(They swore. They promised - but they lied.)

The darkest monster lurks within
The Light has fled beyond our sight -
We graps at it with desperate hands
And bring back fistfuls of pure Night.
