Dear Gerald,

How are you, dear cousin? I sincerely do hope you are well, there far away in Flanders, and that everything will turn out alright for you, for our armies and our country. I have been praying for you this Sunday in church- our vicar rendered a wonderful sermon about the bravery of our men. I was sitting between my mother and Rosalind, and I cannot tell the pride that consumed our hearts at his words.

I prayed for your safety and will do so until the happy tiding of your return reaches my ears.

Sincerely,

Lady Elaine-Mary Kingsleigh.
