Third week in May
not summer yet, but already
too hot to tolerate.
Clothes stick to skin
the air is so thick
that breathing is like
inhaling a wet cloud.
Students sit blearily
at their desks,
unmoving,
trying to keep from
succumbing to the heat.
Teachers try in vain
to get the teenagers' attention,
but the students
are looking
out the windows
hoping for relief
from that
muggy
humid
miserable
weather.
The sky is full of
dense gray clouds
that trap the moisture
in the air.
But with time,
a change in smell,
a strange feeling
of electricity in the air
emerges
soon becoming impossible
not to notice.
The teenagers sit
on the edge of their chairs,
no longer feeling the heat,
so strong is the
anticipation of the rain.
They all hold their breaths,
and the sky opens.
AN: That was based on a true story, hee hee. Please review! Thanks
