What is hell?
You have to walk before you can run,
Going slowly is always the hardest part.
And you need a hand
To help you up when you stumble and fall,
But it's never there when you need it.

What is hell?
You have to keep your head held high,
Ignoring the whispers is always difficult.
And you need a wall
To protect your battered soul,
But it's never there when you need it.

What is hell?
You have to fight the impending darkness,
Clawing your way to the surface can take a lifetime.
And you need a lifeline
To pull you free from the treacherous current,
But it's never there when you need it.

What is hell?
You have to bear the pain of someone else's hate,
Paying for your own sins is bad enough.
And you need a prayer
To keep that last ray of hope alive,
But it's never there when you need it.

What is hell?
You have to give yourself up at the end of the road,
Screaming for help is the only weapon you've got left.
And you need love
To mend the pieces of your shattered heart,
But it's never there when you need it.

What is hell?
You have to feel the painful agony of loneliness,
Living in solitude can slowly unravel your faith.
And you need that someone
To save you from the monster of despair,
But they're never there when you need them.

That is hell.
