Jenna Raven was staring dreamily into thin air when Mick Aidan mischievously tugged her hair. Jenna gave a little shriek and spun around, fists held out, combat ready.
"Whoa there!" Mick stood back. "You seem a little lost in dreamland there, so I thought I'd bring you back to reality."
Jenna was still hyperventilating. "Drop dead, Aidan. I mean it!"
"Okay!" Mick protested. "But I'm still alive, har har. I am far from dying"
"I'll be very happy to help you do so." Threatened Jenna, arms folded.
"Um, that I wouldn't want." Mick said. "Anyway, now that you're down to earth, I had better be going!"
"Yeah, and stay lost!" Jenna shooed him away, grinning widely.
"Ahem." Sidled up Jenna's best friend, Maria Davenport. "Enjoy your little episode with Mick?"
"I still feel like pulverising him." But Jenna's beaming face told otherwise.
"You know, if you keep acting this tomboy, Mick will never fall for you." Maria pointed out.
"I know!" Moaned Jenna. " But I always forget myself when he comes around. Anyway, shouldn't a guy like me for me?"
"Exactly!" Maria agreed. "And if Mick wants a stereotypical sugary sweet girl, he's not the one for you."
"Exactly!" Jenna's fist flew up into the air. "Hey, aren't I sugary sweet enough?"
"Not exactly." Half-grinned Maria. "You're just you. But I know you're trying hard. Keep it up and maybe one day you will score Mick."
"Oh, I wish"
Jena was a fourteen-year-old girl with long blonde hair, and a pair of green eyes. She acted tomboy but didn't dress the part. Jenna was the type that dared to be different and was generally self-assured, except when it came to wooing guys who were turned off by her excess individuality.
"Oh, Jenna!" Becky, another close friend called from across the classroom. "Could you come over here for a while?"
"Yes?" Jenna replied and walked over.
Becky drew Jenna close and whispered into her ear, "Um, Jenna, don't get mad, but Mick knows that you like him. Actually, I kinda told him two months ago…"
"Two months ago!?" demanded Jenna. "Oooh!"
She began knocking her head on Becky's shoulder.
"Um, are you mad?" Becky asked.
"No, but he knows! Argh!! How am I going to face him ever again?"
"You've been facing him these past two months, haven't you? Don't worry, he doesn't care anyway." Becky pointed out.
"True." Jenna drew in deep breaths to calm herself down. "Oh, well. Just let me freak out for a while."
And with that she ran off to Maria to do exactly that.
Jenna's classroom was in chaos. It was a free period and no teacher was in the class. Sudden, a hush fell upon the entire classroom as their form teacher entered the classroom. A boy followed behind.
"Class, from today onwards, Leon Sawyer will be your classmate." Announced the form teacher. "I'd appreciate it if you'll help him get settled in."
"Sure, sir! Welcome Leon. From today onwards, you'll be part of this group of freaks." Grinned Derick Dillon from the back of the class.
"Speak for yourself!" A paper ball hit Derick, courtesy of Mick.
Leon grinned. He knew he was going to like it here.
"Yeah, see you after school!" Leon waved to a couple of guys. "The football club starts at four, right?"
Beaming widely, Leon juggled his backpack as he walked down the corridor. This school was fun. He was glad that he transferred here.
Suddenly, he stopped as he reached the end of the corridor.
Jenna stepped out from behind the wall.
"Hullo." Grinned Leon. "I knew that you'd try to pull something like that."
"And I knew that you'd figure it out long before I did." Jenna grinned back. "Hullo, dinosaur. It's been quite some time. Finally, you got yourself transferred here."
" I knew that you needed some strong guy around to keep an eye on you, considering the messes that you tend to get yourself into." Teased Leon.
"You just wish." Snorted Jenna in indignation. "Remember, I'm just as good as you, and as for as messes are concerned, our adventure days are over."
"Not exactly." There was a spark in Leon's eyes.
"You can't be serious that a secret catacomb actually lies under our school that holds some great secret?" Jenna raised her eyebrows.
"Hey, I transferred here, didn't I?" Leon grinned.
"That's only because you just got back from Egypt." Retorted Jenna. "Speaking of Egypt how was it?"
"Great!" Leon replied enthusiastically. "I kicked mummy arse!"
"Give them a break. They are 3000 years old after all. And one year of you there will be enough to keep the pyramids safe for another 3000 years."
"I know. That's why I went there. So! How was your one year here without me?" Leon rubbed his hand together in glee as he recalled his adventures in Egypt.
"Generally peaceful, considering that we did the Angkor Wat, Niagara Falls, Mount Everest and the Oracle of Delphi before we hit twelve. Anyway, there's this café that sells great food near my place. I'll tell you all about my year over lunch and you promise to give me the details of your journey, alright?"
I wrote this when I was fourteen, and the whole story is finished. I am amused at my style of writing four years back, but I think that it's a shame to let it sit on my shelf. So here it is - The first chapter of the Leon and Jenna Chronicles. Done in 2000, posted in 2004.
