Look to the Sky
By Graymalkin "OH MY GOD A TALKING MUFFIN!" Firstwitch
Every night I look at the sky,
Call your name and wonder why….
Every night I look at the sky,
Maybe miss you, want you come back….
--"Look to the Sky" From Dance Dance Revolution
…..
Why is it I can't breathe?
Why is the darkness so crushing?
Or…or is this crushing only in my heart? What used to be my heart?
I need not breathe; but I breathe for you, as you stand at the edge of the Starry Road. It's painful as I speak your name, say anything about you, crying tears of crimson red. Your face is fair, pale, even in death.
"Please…Rhonwyn…I can save you, turn you to a ghoul—"
You smile at me…the smile I so fell in love with years ago, the smile I would make love to.
The smile that brought forth our most precious creation.
"It…it is not the will—will of the Upper W—world to save me," you gasp, quietly, gently. "I-I—h-had sister Manwyn cast…a s-spell upon me; 't-twas my obligation as a Seyr." You smile again. I go crazy inside. I can't let you go. Not yet.
"What if I forced you?" I ask, beginning to bear my fangs.
"Fat chance." Younger, stronger, your champion emerges from the shadows. Yulan, the Whiter Wolf, Keeper of the Light, Nam. "I've strict instructions to strike you—just a nick—should you try to intervene." Yulan holds up the blade; it glimmers slightly in her green eyes. "You know what one nick means."
I hiss, shrink away. I know all too well what it means.
It means feeling the burn of holy water washed over you…I could never survive that.
"But what if I did?!?!?"
I turn and smile sadly at the girl, she who looks at me with your eyes, Rhonwyn; your daughter, our creation…our love taken flesh.
"I'll turn her into a ghoul!!" She cries, tears running down her face. They are not bloody, they are salt and water and proof of the human within her. "I'll do it, a-a-and th-then she w-won't d-d-die—I WON'T LET YOU KILL HER, DAMMIT!!!!"
She bows her head and sobs; she knows only that she has not the power to save you from whatever bad thing is going to get you.
She's so innocent, love…would you let her go?
You reach up, hold her face in your hand, shaking violently.
But your eyes speak of a strength that not even I can deny on your deathbed.
"Daniell—" Your voice fades, and you go into a coughing fit. Your eyes glaze over.
Oh, God. No. Not you. Of all the Earth, of your Celestial Empire…why her, Lord?
"Are you ready?"
I look in the direction of the voice emotionlessly. Your heir, the Prydaen [1], Preseyr of the Past. She will take your office when you are gone.
She will deprive me of my fondest memory of you….
I look back, pleadingly at you. "You won't die, you'll be all right, oh God Rhonwyn—" And I think say no, please say no, shake your head—anything.
Let me spend just five more minutes in paradise….
….
"Yes. I…I—it's…."
You can't even finish.
"Wulfgar—" Yulan touches my shoulder, even that burns. "Please." She pulls me back gently.
"No—!" My hand slips from yours. You just smile, and close your eyes. I feel the magic, the vibrational aura—it's changing, the magic is gathering.
Rhonwyn, my lover, the mother of my only child—your magic is gathering to bid you goodbye.
Slowly, the Dirge begins, sung by Tanagie, Preseyr…writer of your elegy.
Goodnight dear sister, take your rest
Lay your head upon His chest
Feel your soul fly and soar
Goodbye, good sister…feel no more.
The magic explodes, light surrounding everything. Dainella screams. I stand, numb.
I hear you laugh.
The mana drains from the room, your body lies cold on the gray sheets.
You're gone…
Gone…
Gone…
"….M-Mommy…? Mommy?!?!"
…….
Gone………

The edge of the blue watersilk kimono fluttered, and Yulan followed it into the labyrinthine entrance of the Siayrr's guild.
It was her duty…to follow wherever she was called to.
"The process…the whole thing proceeded as planned," Tanagie spoke in her usual quiet voice. "Better, actually. Quite tender and intimate."
Something flashed in Yulan's mind, crimson tears, a lover's face torn…and she was angry.
"It is understandable that you are feeling such pain, Yu—"
"Is it?!?!" She asked angrily, whipping her head around, wavy white hair swishing over her shoulders. "Is it really right what our magic decrees? Our order?" She glared at the new Seyr. "What right have you to look into me?!!? I hate our magic!"
"Peace, Yulan…you aura merely is so strong I felt it from over here. And…I seek only to comfort you."
Tanagie stopped and turned around, taking Yulan's hands into her own. The beautiful feline aquamarine eyes shone into Elven emerald as she smiled. "Even in times of darkness, there is light, just a little bit. It's like a nightlight."
"A nightlight? That's ridiculous. What joy can you find in death, the eternal sleep?"
Tanagie lowered her head, a gray strand of hair falling across her shoulder. "Just listen. It's comfort; that little bit of gray. It must be nurtured, but…keep that light, and it will come to you."
"……"
Tanagie just turned around. Yulan stood there; her entire body felt numb, awed at the girl with wisdom now beyond her age. She couldn't move.
Not yet, at any rate.
Tanagie nodded. "When your wonder releases you, remember to not seek your way out."

There is a legend in Buddhism.
It regards the legendary Buddha, with his paths of Nirvana and want of nothing.
The Hindus regard the Buddha as a false embodiment of Vishnu, the Preserver. They laugh when he died, and praised their faithfulness; they laughed and mocked, even as the principles of the Buddha passed on and gave him a life after death, an immortality nothing can erase.
The years have passed, and thus have changed the principles of Buddhism. There is now a leader, the Dahlai Lama. (A/N: Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) And when he dies, a great search commences.
His death is not mourned…but rather, his rebirth is celebrated.
They seek a babe that was born at the same time the Lama passed from death and breathed his last.
And this child is hailed as his spirit retaken form and flesh….
End Prologue
****************************************
Well…there you have it.
It didn't come out bad for the prologue, really. This started out as a fanfiction for Yu-Gi-Oh, but I decided, oh, what the heck, better write this down before I forget. And I decided that it's mainly about the OC's we've made for the show, so I changed some names, but the concept should stay the same.
Oh, Aisha! The other charas will be in here too!! I'm not sure how majorly, though. Wulfgar is sharing a main role with Kikyo, and Jean-Claude will be in here too!! Which means Kiyone will probably be making an appearance. Probably Evanflaed too.
JAAAA!!!!!
"Remember, if you believe in yourself, don't do school, drink your sleep, stay in milk and get 8 hours of drugs and you can be like me!!"
