A crooked dagger
Streaming with blood.
The last sight I see indeed.
Held by a peasant,
Man whose child I killed,
Maddened eyes sparking with vengeance.
At the last moment,
A puff of remorse I feel,
Regretting the death of the child.
Alas, too late for me it is.
The road to Death
Unfolds before me.
The fall of the knife,
The feather-like paper laid on my chest,
And I am eternally laid down to sleep.
You who killed me,
Your mad, raving eyes
And dirt-stained hands...
Death you risked,
Death you have delivered,
And Death you shall receive.
A scene unravels before me.
Foggy at the edges,
Yet still a clear picture.
A ragged man hanging above a fountain,
Crowds gathered around,
Whispers pass through.
A smile comes over my face.
So.
I have gotten the last laugh after all.
- Marquis St. Evremonde
