"Doctors! We need to shut the system down now!"
One of the doctors looked up from one of the panels and over at the rabbit. This one wore a silver coat and was a gray wolf. "Why? What's wrong?"
The rabbit had her hands on her knees and she was panting as if she had just ran two miles, "Sir, there's an----" her speech was cut off short by a bolt of thunder outside of the building. It hit every one of the scientists working what had come. An ion storm. They all paused in what they were doing. Suddenly the wolf spoke again, "Shut everything down. NOW!"
"But, sir...won't that cause a problem with the experiment?"
"I don't care, just shut everything down now!"
However, none of them had a chance to do this as a bolt of ionic energy hit the metal walls of the outside of the building. All of it was directed towards the cylinder in the center of the room. The glass tube held a green liquid in it was lighted at the top in and the bottom. Inside of it was a small ball of orange tinted gold fur. As the energy from the storm hit the cylinder the room went bright, as if the sun itself was inside the interior of the room. There was the sound of glass cracking and water spilling on the floor as the light dimmed. Once it was gone, there was a total blackness. The room inside was completely void of light. The wolf knew what had happened, the cylinder had broken. As his sharp eyes adjusted to the light he gazed the floor where the tube had once been and noticed the ball of fur lying on the floor. His eyes filled with sorrow as he picked his way through the shards of glass towards the fur.
At first glance one might not understand why the scientist was so sad, for it was only a pelt, right? Wrong. The ball of fur wasn't just a pelt, it was the beginnings of a cyber guardian. A kit fox that was supposed to be the strongest guardian yet. However, hope on that project seemed lost as the cylinder vital to its life had been shattered in the same manner. As the wolf reached kit, his eyes shimmered with hope, the ball of fur had a regular breathing pattern. It was alive. Picking it up he walked out of the room and towards one of the doors. Pushing it open with his back he entered another large chamber, however, the lights were still on in here as it was designed to repel the energy of the ion storm that had now passed.
Cradling the ball in one arm he walked to an empty pod in a row of others. Placing the fox in it, small suction cups attached to it immediately and the hatch closed as the wolf removed his arms. The pod filled with a green liquid similar to that in the other chamber. The soon to be kitsune would grow in the pod for several years until it had reached its full stature. The wolf turned his back on the little guardian and he left the room.
~~~Six Years Later~~~
BOOM!
Thunder sounded across a small city. It wasn't ordinary thunder, it was a sharp, loud, and clear bang. The city shuddered with it. Newspapers flew everywhere. People panicked, there was chaos everywhere. Probably due to the fact that this storm was a cross between the frequent ion storms and the oh-so-rare thunder storms, mixed with a little chaotic energy. There was another flash of black-yellow lightning with a sharper, clearer, and louder bang.
On the outskirts of the town a metallic building shone with the light. This was a laboratory. Inside was complete havoc. Nobody could predict what was going to happen, nor what the results would be. This was probably multiplied by the fact that it was a Chaos Storm, something so rare and uncommon, they were thought to be myths. Continuing with the story.... there was another crackle of chaotic lightning, this time it landed it self on the lab's exterior. Excess energy overloaded the whole lab's system. Everything turned brilliantly white. Every light source in the building shattered, anything electronic was obliterated.
In a small, normally white, room full of pods, surprisingly only one broke. It wasn't too surprising after a few seconds of thought, as the lone broken pod was the only one in use. Attaching suction cups, which would have been flowing with data, released what they were holding and hung limply on the sides, having no command to withdraw into the sides of the pod. Green liquid spilled onto the floor surrounding it. A wet gold-orange form inside the pod shuddered. Pale, icy blue eyes slowly opened to view the world for the first time.
The owner of the eyes blinked as another bolt of chaotic energy hit the ground nearby. The bang afterwards made the creature wince in pain. Her conic ears were overly sensitive and close to bleeding. For a few seconds, suddenly the pain left her ears as she healed herself unwittingly. Pushing herself out of the pod she looked around the room with a clearer view. The lights turned back on, icy cold orbs winced at the white light. Slowly they adjusted.
Their owner turned its head to look at two tails, each had a section of tattered fur around eight inches from the tip. A slim orange hand tried to down the fur, but it was stubborn. She soon gave up on the task and studied the hand. Slowly, a set of silver claws popped out of the tips, and jumped back in.
A door crashed open, again making the two tailed one wince in pain. In walked a silver and black furred wolf. He didn't wear a lab coat like the other scientists, and was much younger as well. He stared at the other occupant of the room and then to the broken pod and back to the other one again. Slowly his mind formed the words that his eyes asked.
"Did...did you come out of that pod?" He pointed to what he meant to make sure there was no confusion by what he meant.
The orange gold furred creature stared vacantly at him for a second before she realized he was asking her that. "Ye...Yes." Both people were surprised to hear her voice. It was gentle and calm, much like the way her eyes had become, a warm sky blue.
"Follow me then."
