Who is going to watch over me when I start growing up?
Who is going to cook me dinner when I come home from school?
Who is going to give me all the love in the world?
It used to be my mother, but she is gone.
Daddy said she went to sleep.
For a long time he said "she will wake up when it is your turn to go to
sleep."
He was crying, I don't know why.
When I went to school I told my friends.
They said "Cool, but aren't you going to miss her until you go to sleep?"
I laughed and said " She will buy me a pony like she said she would"
"She will laugh and play with me in the fields like last week."
"She will tell me the most amazing stories at bedtime."
"She will protect me from the monsters under my bed"
They said, "I wish I had your mommy"
I went home, and Daddy smiled.
He had said we were going to mommy's sleeping place.
He was wearing black. he told me to wear black.
I said. "Mommy doesn't like black, she said it's a bad colour."
He said to wear it. mommy would be happy.
So I did, and followed him to the nice car, it was shinny.
We came to this very big house, I asked
"Why doesn't mommy sleep at our house? Why here? She will be lonely."
He smiled, he was crying again.
I took his had and started to skip.
Everyone was wearing black
They were all quiet and crying like Daddy.
Mommy had said everyone should smile; it would bring the moon out at night
and the sun out when it is day.
So I smiled so that mommy would be proud and happy.
We walked in, everyone was crying, everyone was in black.
They were all around a big box.
The box looked like the one the vampires slept in.
I looked in and I saw mommy.
She was pale, her eyes closed and in her favorite dress.
She looked strange without her smile on, without her eyes open.
But I smiled am looked around and saw my grandma and Grandpa.
I ran to them, they hugged me and cried.
When almost everyone was gone, and I was almost asleep Daddy picked me up
He said, "I will always be here for you. Always."
We left, Daddy still cried.
We went to my favorite restaurant and ate.
I still smiled.
"Always smile, never frown, never be sad, and never cry. Make the best of
life."
That's what Mom said on her deathbed to me when I was five.
I will always remember that.
Always
