The Greatest Temptation

He could resist everything except temptation and this was the greatest temptation of all. Lying at his feet was the lithe figure of his unconscious best friend and the object of his desires for the past five months. It was hard having to see him every day at college and to pretend that he didn't want him, didn't need him but somehow he had succeeded, although he wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.

Slowly he lowered himself to the alley floor so that we was knelling in the near darkness, only lightened by the street lamp at the alley mouth. Now he was more or less level with the other boy ('boy?' He thought, 'We're both eighteen, hardly boys.') and he could see that his amber eyes were still closed. Connor sighed, Kaine had been on yet another drinking spree which, judging from the grazed knuckles, black eye and various other bruises and scratches, he had probably ended up in a fight. Again.

He moved the honey coloured bang out of Kaine's face and not for the first time since he'd known him, or even the first time that night, Connor felt the urge to succumb to the temptation and to kiss the one he wanted, needed, regardless of what was moral or of the consequences.

He shivered slightly and realised that Kaine, who was wearing less than himself, must be freezing. Connor shifted his position so his feet wouldn't get pins and needles and he pulled his angel in fishnet into his arms, hoping to keep him warm.

The proximity was testing his control to the limit and he wasn't sure he could handle it- he was about ready to just throw caution to the wind. He leaned in slightly, his lips parting a little but Kaine shifted and this brought Connor to his senses. He closed his navy eyes hoping that this would help block out Kaine. Of course that was a stupid idea which couldn't possibly work as seen as there was the comforting presence in his arms.

Connor had no idea that the reason Kaine was lying passed out in some dingy alley way was him. Kaine had been struggling with his own demons, especially around his black haired mystery. He loved everything about him, the way his silky hair fell past his shoulders, looking infinitely better than any females could, the navy seas that had hidden depths and his body was always a plus. You could see his muscles underneath the tight shirts he insisted on wearing and it drove Kaine insane.

There was nothing he wanted more than to be with the other but he thought that it was impossible. Why would the dark haired flirt want to be with him? He could have his pick of anybody, male and female. With this in mind he went out to drink, and to forget, although he felt that he was always being haunted by Kaine. And he got into fights, it wasn't his problem some people were idiots and he happened to tell them that. If they got violent they obviously couldn't handle the truth but he had a right to defend himself right?

Connor watched as his angel slept, well if angels had black eyes and bruises. It was just so difficult, but he didn't deserve someone like Kaine. Sure he went out and got drunk too often but that aside he was kind and generous, after all he had befriended the dark haired outcast with the almost black eyes. Plus he was sexy in every way, his voice, his appearance which was accentuated by the clothes he wore. He could have his pick of anyone, male and female, so why would he pick him?

Kaine began to stir bringing Connor out of his thoughts, and after a moment amber eyes met navy and after a minute of silence the honey haired boy noted that he was in the other's arms. So this was a dream? Damn...

Connor realised that his angel was still in his arms and so he attempted to explain it. "Well...I thought you were, um, cold...so I thought body heat and...and all..." A faint blush danced across his cheeks.

As seen as this was obviously a dream Kaine should do what he wanted right? Right... 'So here it goes,' he thought not sure why he should be nervous if it was a dream. "I love you," he confessed and he saw the shock on the other's face. 'This isn't a dream is it? Oh shit.' He thought but what was done was done and all he could do was wait for Connor's reaction.

Connor was speechless, after all this is what he wanted, so why couldn't he say anything? "Wha..." He managed lamely, berating himself. He could see the hopeful sparkle in Kaine's amber eyes begin to disappear and he began to panic, dreading that he had missed his opportunity to do what he had been wanting to do for the past five months.

Figuring that since he couldn't string a couple, well three in this case, words together to make a coherent statement and actions are meant to speak louder than words anyway he should just do it.

Using his right index finger he gently lifted Kaine's head and for the second time that night he leaned towards him, lips parting and they kissed, a brief chaste kiss but one none the less. Then before any of them knew what was happening they were kissing once more, this time their tongues exploring the others mouth.

He could resist everything except temptation but could the temptation resist him?
