My Passion

I can’t express myself in words when my melody is far more powerful

It resonates against my being and all the world around me

Within me, around me, a part of me; together we are one

The sound is more than my vocal chords can emit, more than I can ever be

I am alive in it, I am dying in it

I don’t understand its magnitude but that it is beautiful

So beautiful it hurts

I want to share, want to explain, want others to understand its boundlessness

How it embraces me without physical touch, yet I shiver as if it were a tender caress

Movement, so much movement, peace, joy, absolute bliss, unconditional love

It’s stolen my soul, trapped my heart, and bound my being to it

It is freedom, it is glory

I can’t express in words what music is to me

I can try to show you, through my music, how wonderful it is

Music is great, amazing, spectacular

Music, my love, my life

Harmony, melody, rhythm, timbre, texture, tune, tempo, range, density, dynamics

Whisper, hum, whistle, sing, play, listen, dance, feel, touch, sense, combine, exist

Music

I am a composer. I wrote this when I was working on a piece of music that just seemed to flow; it felt so beautiful and natural. I reached a resting point in the music, but couldn’t seem to continue it that moment as I drowned in the previous melody. I decided to take a break and work on some of my writing pieces (which, for me, are so much more inferior to my music), but the tune kept haunting me, and this poem came out instead. This is as close as I can get to explaining what music means to me, without using great hand gestures, or music itself.
