::Goodbye::
By Autumn Ivy Fields
I close my eyes
Let out a sigh
Think of all that
Has gone by
Remember you
Remember me
Remember how it
Used to be
Remember sitting
By the pond
Up all night
Talking till dawn
Remember your eyes
So full of life
Completely blind to
Your path of strife
Remember happy
Remember sad
Remember good times
Remember bad
Remember life
Rainy days inside
Remember life
Before you died
Your smile brings
Back painful tears
My heart breaks
So full of fears
Dressed in black
From head to toe
A rose in hand
Your favorite, you know
Your name is said
Heads are bowed
A poem is read
Out to the crowd
The silence hurts
I want to die
Remember when
We said goodbye?
I held your hand
As you left this world
You said, "Farewell
My baby girl,
"My love, my angel
My only one
I'll be there for you
Every rising sun
"Keep me here
Inside your heart
I love you, hun
We'll never part"
You kissed me then
For the very last time
Your hands were cold
Inside of mine
Days crawl on
Weeks pass by
Months are long
Then years arrive
Cemetery empty
Except for me
Statues of stone
Scream quietly
I sit on grass
Next to your grave
Your name engraved
Starts wearing away
I smell the rose
I've brought for you
Toss out the old
Set down the new
Read you the letter
From your mom
Start to cry
As time goes on
I tell you how
I lost my job
How my cat died
How I met Rob
"He's nice," I say
Halfheartedly
"He's just not you,
Not right for me"
I say my prayers
Rise to my feet
Kiss you goodbye
In the blistering heat
The month of June
Gives way to July
Then it's May again
Another year gone by
Year after year
I come visit you
I'll never forget
To come back in June
June, your birthday,
The day we met
June, the month
I'll never forget
For in June it took you
The cancer, the pain
And in June you left me
To a life full of rain
