It was a sunny day, and a warm breeze blew over the mound of soft soil that was a fresh grave. Walking slowly through the soft ground, Erica Torrent's heels sunk in. She sighed slowly as she approached the newly filled grave, and stopped abruptly before it, reading the engraved words written upon the grave.

SERENA WALLACE
1986- 2004
"AN ANGEL THAT NOW CAN FLY"

The feelings of guilt washed over her, as she brushed away her falling tears. This wasn't happening, this couldn't be happening. Only two weeks ago she had woken up, like every other day. Walking downstairs she had heard an ambulance, and although it had seemed close, ambulances were very common and the sound of sirens was nothing new.

But later, when she had went out with her friends, she saw a couple people crying outside of Serena's house. She hadn't spoken to Serena in months, barely thought about her. But, as she walked past the house, she had a strange feeling wash over her and tried to shrug it off as quickly as she possibly could. Moving on, she went about her day not even thinking about anything; that was until she had gone online last that night and read the words RIP Serena on one of the messages.

She had quickly clicked on the person, and sent an IM message, ignoring the fact that she couldn't stand them. And then, she learned of what had occurred earlier in that day. Serena, in a depressed state of mind, had popped a bottle of Tylenol and downed it with a pint of vodka, and then locked herself in the bathroom. She was found, already dead, sprawled out on the bathroom floor, her lips blue and her skin like ice. Old scars from her cutting adorned her wrists; scars which she hid from everyone. Beside her, she had written a suicide note, explaining that she could no longer take everything, and that she was giving up.

The funeral had been a week later, and flowers and had been placed on the front lawn as a memorial. Erica had gone to the funeral, though over come with guilt and unable to speak to anyone, she hid in the back of the church and watched the proceedings. Serena's parents sat in the front pew, and a smiling picture of Serena was adorning the coffin. But, Serena remained alone in the back, full of guilt. If only she had talked to her, said something; maybe she still would have been around.

She had been avoiding the grave for a week now, unable to even think about coming to this place. It was filled with the stench of death, and even though the sun shown high in the sky, a bitter chill rolled down her spine. She bent down a little, and placed the flowers she had brought, Daisies, on top of the soil and sighed.

"Serena," She spoke as though she expected an answer. She spoke as though she thought Serena would pop up out of her grave and sit down beside her and lay her head on her shoulder like she had done so many times before. "Serena, I miss you."

Her words came out muffled, mixed with tears and sniffles. Wiping her tears away quickly, she tried to calm herself but it was pointless. The tears were flowing, and someone who had once been her best friends was lying, forever sleeping under the ground. On her wrists, her scars would always remain, even after she turned into dust.

"Serena, I'm sorry." She spoke slowly, fumbling with the soft soil.

But, around her a warm breeze blew her shoulder length hair into her green, teary eyes and there was no response from Serena. She was long gone, and Erica couldn't even remember the last conversation that she had with her. And now, she would never get to say goodbye. She would never get to tell her she was sorry for what happened. She would never get to tell her that, no matter what happened, she would always love her and that would never change.

"Serena," She paused, and looked at the words carved into the stone of the grave. "Good-bye." Kissing her hand, she touched the grave and stood up. Her imprints were left in the long grass, and she sighed wiping away her tears. "I love you."

And then, slowly, she walked back across the long grass to where her father sat in his car waiting for her. Looking back once, she saw one of the daisies blow across the grave, and rest in the soil. Serena's favourite flower, and it was beautiful just like she once was. Just like her memory would always be. "And," Erica thought to herself, "I won't stop bringing them."
