Chapter 5 Drug
Mercy walked slower, and more cautious with every footstep. There was no place in sight, and she could almost see the suns light shade rising above. She could hear a car coming a mile or so back, and was confused at what to do. She figured stealing the car was her best bet, and her race with the sun was coming to an end, but she wasn’t sure which way. The thought of standing there, in the middle of the road, while the sun devoured her had indeed crossed her mind, but she wouldn’t let them win. Not after what they had done to her. She had no idea where to go, as they would always be chasing her. She wished she were strong enough to face them, to tear apart Baldev with her bare hands. The thought of Chandra giggling in the background made her tighten her fist…The car she heard earlier pulled over to her side.
“Excuse me, are you lost or something?”
Mercy looked over at the man. He was young, early twenties. He had tan skin but had an Asian look to him. He smiled at Mercy.
“Are you okay?”
Mercy was hungry for blood, but she felt weakened for some reason. She looked up, the sun almost rising. Everything around her became blurred and she passed out. The vampire drug they slipped her before she escaped had caught up with her. When she awoke she was in a small room. Her body lying on a chair.
“She just passed out!”
The man from earlier was arguing with a man in a long white coat. He spoke," I understand that sir, but all of our rooms are full, so well have to send someone out here to look at her.”
“It’s a waiting room though!”
“We’ll be with you shortly.”
The white coated man walked away and the younger one walked over to Mercy and faced her.
“You’re awake! You’ve been going in and out for the last couple hours.”
Mercy looked around, a long hallway lay ahead of her and she saw a shed of light in the room it led into. It was daytime.
“Where am I? Is this a hospital?”
“St. Daniels, not far from the lit city of Las Vegas.”
How the hell had she wound up all the way out here? How long had she walked?
“This is insane.”
She looked around; a window lay in the far corner but had a curtain over it. The rest of the room seemed safe from sunlight. A nurse came out; a big lady dressed in white. She walked over to Mercy and the man.
‘By the way, I’m Brian.”
The nursed looked at Brian and asked him a few questions. Mercy was too focused to realize what was happening. The nurse stared at Mercy and rested her palm on her head.
“She's very cold.”
All Mercy could do was laugh in her mind. Her story had taken an unexpected turn, and she couldn’t think on anything to do. The nurse raised the end of the stethoscope and pressed into onto Mercy’s chest.
“I can’t hear her heartbeat, this may be serious.”
“What?”
“She also looks extremely pale; she definitely needs a room.”
“Don’t touch me!” Mercy shouted, when the nurse tried to help her up.
“She may be going into a type of shock. Doctor Henderson!”
The man in the white coat from earlier came over. The nursed shouted terms at him that mercy didn’t understand. Another woman came over with a long syringe filled with some type of fluid.
“No…” Mercy stared at it. She had to get out, they would find out she was already dead unless she did something, fast.
The 4 people surrounded her and Mercy struggled. She was still weak but these were mere humans. If it got out that she was a vampire then the Coven could track her with ease. It was decided, time for action. Mercy snapped out and held the wrist of the nurse with the syringe in hand, all people in the room rushed over and held Mercy down, but she forced her body up. Everyone on her flew backwards, slamming into walls and a table. Mercy ran, down the only hallway she saw. The light getting brighter and brighter. She stopped and turned around, watching the hundreds of doctors and nurses running at her. She ran farther down the hall, until she faced the window. The sun was rising higher and higher as she faced it and the light only got brighter. It covered her body and she felt herself falling apart. She screamed her body on fire, darkening. She shattered, dust falling into the shag carpet. Dust falling into the pressed down spots from her boots.
Mercy suddenly woke up, finding herself in the car of the young man. Facing her, with a stunned look, he spoke, “lost you there for a minute. I hope you don’t mind me giving you a ride, but you looked like you needed some serious help there.”
Mercy looked around, the sun hadn’t fully gone up yet, but was getting there. The whole Hospital scene had been a dream.
“By the way, my names Brian. What's yours?
“Mercy.”
And she was lost in unconsciousness.
