I arrived at the crime scene 8:00 in the morning. I got out of the
car. There was a nasty smell in the air. I tried not to think of it.
Another police car was leaving, but I didn't think too much of it at the
time.
I got out of the car and started looking for clues. I wasn't going
home until I found something.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Show me around."
"Okay, but you're not going to like this."
He brought me around the front. I looked at the windows. There really
was blood on them. We stepped inside. I saw dead bodies lying in rows on
the floor. Bodies of... I couldn't take it any more. I looked away in
disgust. I stepped outside and started looking along the streets. Nothing
was on this side. Maybe I should go to the other side. So, I crossed the
street, not knowing what I would find.
There was an old man on the streets. He was skinny, shabbily clothed,
and looked like he hadn't taken a bath in two, maybe three weeks. He was
more ash and dirt than skin. He sat crouched over his little fire like it
was his life. As he spoke, with his old and worn voice, he breathed slowly
and heavily, like a smoker who has smoked a hole in their throat.
"What," he paused to take a breath, "are you looking for?"
"My fiancé," My speech made me sound like a raving lunatic compared to
the man's slow and heaving breaths. "she's a slim girl about my age and
she's been missing for a day now. Have you seen her?"
"When," he breathed again, "was she about?"
"Last night. Have you seen her?"
"Hmm... Last night." He mumbled. "Last night... Hmmmm... I saw a girl
last night."
"You did? Which way did she go?"
"I saw a man carrying a girl. Hmmmm..." He breathed again as he
thought. "Yes, that was it. I saw a man carrying a girl go into the
warehouse."
"Kim!"
"What was it she was screaming? [breathe] A mans name? What was it?"
"Jay, was it Jay?" I rambled madly.
He held his head still for a while. Then, he shook it. "Yes, Yes I
think it was."
"Where is she? Which way did she go?"
"There were gunshots." My heart suddenly stopped. He breathed again.
"There were gun shots, then there was screaming. [breathe] One came out
limping, stopped, fell. They didn't move for hours. [Breathe] I thought
they were dead."
"And the other, what happened to the other?"
"They ran down the street and turned into that corner." He pointed. He
took one more heavily laden breath. Then he started to laugh.
Why was he laughing? My fiancé was dead and he was laughing? I ran
anyways. As I ran I vowed that I would kill that son of a (lets just say
gun) no mater what happened. Her death would be avenged.
I stepped into the ally and stopped cold.
There was a woman with a knife, leaning over a curled up body, a man.
The murderer would kill again.
"You killed my..." The person started. I stepped on a stick and the
person turned their head. Kimberly turned her head. Wait a minute?!
"Kimberly?"
"Jay?"
"I thought you were...dead." we said in unison.
The sun shone solely on us two, as we embraced in the street corner.
Then, we kissed. For the first time in ages, we kissed. It all made sense
now, the man laughing, the gunshots, the car... She had escaped the
murderer just as I sent the cops. She went to the cops just as I left, and
she was just now avenging my death.
"Kim?" I said "You're my hero."
"I love you too Jay. I love you too."
Two days later, we married. And we looked after each other ever since
then.
THE END

Okay, I was trying to change it from mystery to romance. But, it didn't exactly work. Maybe I'll do better next time I get a challenge.
So? What are you waiting for? Review, review! I don't care if you've reviewed one of my works before. Heck, I don't care if you flame. And, I love it when they're cruel. Just review! And be as harsh (but mostly critical) as possible!!
