London, England
1892

The dark streets were damp after the recent downpour. Silent darkness crept down the sidewalks, not a soul stirred at the dawn of the hour. At least, not a being with a soul. A figure stepped from the shadows and walked swiftly down the cobblestone streets. Each flame from the oil street lamps flickered then died out as the figure passed each one. Coming across a local pub, the silence evaporated into cheers and laughter from within. The Figure stood in the reflection of the lights from inside the pub and gazed inside. He was a tall man, with long silky black hair and ice blue eyes. He stood with dignity, pride, his back arched, head high, hands resting in the pockets of the long black cloak he wore. His name was Carver. Just Carver. He never had a last name. Not since he had been turned. Those sparkling blue eyes studied the drunken people enjoying themselves and engaging in the natural indulgences of humanity. Indulgences that Carver thought were merely pathetic escapes from reality. Stupidity of the human mind. Oh yes. But Carver did not have a human mind. He had the mind of a pure genius. The mind of a Vampire. Yes. He was one of the dreaded living dead in England. It wasn't believable for most victims, he seemed perfectly normal on the outside. A light complexion, possibly lighter than most, very attractive distinguished face and eyes. Very human- like. But he was oh so different. He was a creature of the night, his sole purpose of life, to obtain blood and live for eternity. Carver was extremely intelligent as a vampire, but before his transformation, he was just another stupid, young, naive human boy. The cold nipped at Carver's face, provoking a poised smile. He shifted his weight and leaned against the pub's brick wall. He could remember that day like it was yesterday. It was the day that he met Lavena. Lavena who had took him under her wing and made him a home he never had. Up until he was turned, he had been a beggar on the streets, alone deserted and disowned by his family. The day he met Lavena was the day that Carver was found. He remembered the soft embrace she gave him, the warmth that spread throughout his body, her lips against his neck and the tiny pinpricks. Then he died only to return hours later, fully transformed and more powerful than ever. Since that day, Lavena had been his teacher, guide, mentor and lover. She was an amazing person with a strong morality. He loved her with all of his heart, protecting her with every fiber in his body. The thoughts faded as reality hit him yet again. The loud noise around him was too much for his sensitive ears. He wanted to kill them all for it, but he held back the instincts. He could smell the blood for miles, it overwhelmed his nostrils and he opened his mouths, the two pearly fangs waiting for the kill. He marked his victim, a young woman walking drunkenly from the pub, alone and unwatched. He gazed at her deeply and walked towards her. "Katina." He called out, using the psychic abilities Lavena had taught him not so long ago. The young woman turned and his eyes blazed into hers. "Do I know you?" She asked with a rich English accent. Carver used the hypnosis of his eyes on hers and she walked towards him. He shook his head and placed a cold hand on her cheek. "No, but I know you Katina, I know all about you." He whispered, leading her to the dark alleyway behind the pub. He pushed her gently against the brick wall and refused to break the eye contact. As if sending her a message, she pushed her head to the side and pulled back the collar of her dress. Carver leaned in and closed his eyes, the scent of alcohol, blood, and a faint perfume filled his nostrils. Baring his teeth, his hands wrapped around her head and neck. Carver pushed his teeth into her soft flesh and seconds later, warm blood flooded his mouth, washing over his lips and tongue. She whimpered quietly and as he drank, her body grew limp and lifeless. When he finished, Carver let the body collapse to the ground and he stepped over it. Wiping his mouth clean, he disappeared into the shadows of the alley.
