A friend.
Who actually has a true friend?
Would anyone expect that to friend to be
The one living on the sidelines?
No one in the big gang of friends,
Someone who may seem to cease to exist,
Is it so hard to think that this may be your friend,
More than any of the others who you know so well?
Who could think this person who no one notices,
Could truly be a good friend?
Who'd think they could be a good friend when
They seemedly have no friends of their own?
Who'd be the one to turn to
When your group fall out with you
And regard you as their enemy?
Who'd be the one who actually believed you
And actually made you feel liked,
Like a person should be?
Who'd be the one
Who's the truer, better friend?
However, when they all make friends again,
They dump you; drop your hopes,
They act like they don't want your friendship,
They just wanted you so they could just have one friend for a day.
It's all too well that they don't want to
Be friends with the outcast,
But what they forget is,
The next time they fall out with their group
Who's the truer, better friend?
Why won't they see anyone as a permanent friend,
Not someone sucking up to them?
Why can't they see that it's all a big cycle?
And when they all fall out,
They'll turn back to that truer, better friend,
And drop their chances again.
When the outcast moves away,
And they fall out again,
Perhaps they'll realize who was the truer friend,
Who was the one who always stuck by them,
Who was the truer, better friend.
But their chances are then gone,
Gone with the child that's no longer there,
And perhaps then they'll realize
Never to drop that chance again,
But to stick with that truer, better friend.
